Boise State Lands Star Recruit To Make 2010 Recruiting Class Total Six

Chris Petersen and the Boise State Broncos received a special gift on Christmas Day.

The gift wasn't wrapped but measures 6'4" weighs 205 lbs. and runs the 40 in under 4.5.

Kind of hard to put that kind of package in pretty paper.

It was a Christmas gift that many coaches were hoping to get but Petersen was the only coach to get this special present.

Matt Miller, the state of Montana's player of the year and two time state offensive MVP gave his verbal commitment to BSU after fielding offers from many major BCS programs around the country.

Miller has also been named All-State as a safety and cornerback.

Arkansas, Stanford, Arizona State, North Carolina, Oregon State were just some of the BCS conference schools that had put an offer on the table for Miller.

Most impressive may be the offers from Harvard, Dartmouth and Stanford. Matt will bring more than just physical skills to the famous blue turf in Bronco Stadium.

Miller has played just about every position on the field. Matt's primary positions were running back, wide receiver and defensive safety but also played quarterback and cornerback on defense. He's scored over 20 touchdowns each of the last two years.

Coach Petersen has promised Miller he will play at wide receiver for the Broncos and has a chance at playing as a true freshman.

Boise State returns 21 of the 22 Fiesta Bowl starters and all 11 offensive starters.

Included in that offensive group is All-WAC first team wide receivers Austin Pettis and Titus Young.

"I thought it would be a great fit for me and I was happy when I was down there and decided immediately that Boise State was a good fit for me" said Miller. "It feels light a giant weight has been lifted off my shoulders."

While he will be close enough and on a big enough stage to be seen by his family, Miller knows he will quickly find himself comfortable under the tutelage of head coach Chris Petersen, who was named one of seven finalists for the 2009 Paul “Bear” Bryant Award.

Petersen won the award in 2007.

“Coach Petersen is a great human being, he really cares about his guys and that was important in my decision,” Miller said. “But he gets after it on the football field, too, and that’s important.”

"It's hard to sell a Montana kid to go down south, its such a long way to go, but he was being recruited by a lot of teams" Said Helena Capital High head coach Pat Murphy.

"I really think he could have played anywhere in the nation and Boise State is one of the top programs in the country" Murphy said.

“I think it’s going to be a good fit for him, it’s a great program, it’s a top-10 program,” Murphy said. “It’s a school that’s nearby so his family can go see him.”

Although Miller is also an All-State basketball player and a contender for the state title in the high hurdles in track he says he will concentrate only on football at BSU.

Miller says maybe his best attribute is his time spent on film.

"I am a film junky," Miller said. "I breakdown film with the coaches at lunch and I have game film at my house that I just put on sometimes too."

That's music to Chris Petersen's ears.

Kellen Moore, BSU's All-American sophomore quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate is also a 'film junky.' What makes more so successful is his ability to read defenses quickly which is learned during the hours of film he watches.

Two total film junkies on that same team and one throws the ball to the other.

It can't hurt to have a wide receiver with the talents of Miller sitting beside him watching film day after day, night after night.

Petersen may have to invest in a couple of cots so the two can just live together.

It's a huge plus for Boise State to soon have two 'football junkie film watchers' on the famed 'smurf turf' at Bronco stadium.

Boise State had originally thought they would only have five scholarships to give in the 2010 class.

Obviously one became available and it sounds like the coaching staff made great use of the last one.
