Michigan Wednesday: Deals with Basketball Business

Big House BobDec 30, 2009

Michigan opens the Big Ten season tomorrow at noon and coach John Beilein had some announcements yesterday regarding the Michigan Basketball program.

  • 7 footer Ben Cronin is again done for the year and his basketball career might be over. He has not been able to recover from his hip injury as they had hoped. He will stay at Michigan to get his education. Good luck to Ben!
  • Michigan assistant coach and former head coach of Penn State, Jerry Dunn is leaving the Michigan program to deal with some family issues. There is not a time table for how long Jerry will be gone but Michigan will welcome him back when he is ready to return. Jerry is a class guy and lets hope his family issues are resolved soon.

  • Former Michigan recruit and Detroit native Alex Legion who committed to play for Tommy Amaker before he got let go, signed with Kentucky, then transferred to Illinois, is now transferring again. Let's all say thank you to Alex for not sticking with his Michigan commitment.
  • Former Michigan Basketball player Ekpe Udoh who transferred to Baylor now leads the Big 12 with 3.9 blocks per game and ranks second in rebounds (9.8). Michigan sure could use those numbers these days.

Football Business:

  • Make sure you tune into the Under Armour Bowl this weekend to see a sneak peak of Michigan's future QB, Devin Gardner. If your interested in expanded coverage, ESPN/U will show a practice today, a skills presentation on Friday, and the game on Saturday at 11:00 AM EST. Other players of interest include: William Gholtson, Kenny Shaw, and Torrian Wilson.
  • Michigan has offered Myrtle Beach junior quarterback Everett Golson for the 2011 class. Everett completed 224-of-356 pass attempts for 3,529 yards and 47 touchdowns with three interceptions this season. He also rushed for 199 yards and five scores.
