America to Vikings' Brett Favre, “we're moving on” – AP
In a stunning turn of events, America has informed Brett Favre that it is โmoving onโ from the once-beloved icon of sports.
Favre, the Minnesota Vikingsโ first string quarterback and a lightning rod for ugly controversy, was informed of Americaโs intentions late Monday night, December 28th, after his team fell in overtime to the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in Chicago. ย Said America, โBrett, I canโt even remember why we got together anymore,โ adding that โthat was a long, long time ago when [America and Favre] were much youngerโ and most likely, โa pair of fools in love.โ ย At press time this morning, Favre was reported to be sleeping off a โpretty decentโ hangover on the sofa, America apparently having kicked him out of the bedroom.
Reached on Tuesday for additional comment America struck a resigned tone:
"Whatโs left to say about Brett that hasnโt been said? ย Is he a legend, sure. ย Is he still a competent QB at this point in his career? ย Possibly. ย But what he most definitely is is a man who has walked out on his commitments to two adoring fan bases, blasted and manipulated both local and national media contingents, thrown three professional head coaches under the proverbial โbusโ in three years, and tossed enough dumb picks in critical situations to merit his own โGreatest Moments in Interception Historyโ montage in Canton [home of the NFL Hall of Fame].
Of course, all of that might have been forgiven if the guy couldโve set aside the whining, the controversy, and the Wrangler Jeans ads and โ for the first time in, what a decade? โ won a competitive football game in December or January. ย I mean, seriously, facts are facts.
Sad part is my family never liked Brett and, for some reason, that never set off the right alarm bellsโฆโ
"
Upon hearing of Americaโs decision to dump Brett Favre, Sports Illustrated columnist and Brett Favre Fanclub Chairman, Peter โOrange Mocha-Latteโ King printed the following rebuttal today online at cnnsi.com:
"โFive things โI think I thinkโ regarding America and Brett Favre -
"
- America is ungrateful and will regret dumping Brett, especially now, when he really needs America the most.
- America is, by any measurement, a total โdoody headโ.
- Brett loves and admires America and if America would just understand that he doesnโt really mean it when he gets angry at America heโs just an emotional guy and thatโs how he shows that he cares.
- No one had a problem with Favre when he was a twenty-something drug addict, so whatโs the problem now?
- Someone โ and really, who else? โ has got to let dads all over America know that Wranglers are the most comfortable and affordable denim trousers on the market.
When asked by a Venuist pool reporter for further clarification on his comments, King could only digress into a modestly humorous anecdote about โthat time [he] tried to order a double espresso from a coffee stand in Bostonโs South Station Amtrak/Acela terminal.โ
Favre himself, when finally reached for comment, would only say that โfirst of all, America knows who I am, and what I represent. ย And that is, I am a gunslinger and represent, well, slinging the ball and, damn straight, I always will. ย Now, my head is absolutely KILLING me, so if you donโt mind โ and I donโt give a flying [eff] if you do, buddy โ Iโm gonna go ย find a bottle of aspirin and a pound me a couple High Lifes.โ ย Added Favre, โhair of the dog, BABY, wooo!โ
In related news, sources within the Vikings organization report that Favre won his NFC Central Fantasy Football league by starting Jay Cutler on Monday night. ย Evidently, โBrett just had a feeling that Jay was going to be on formโ against the formerly formidable Vikings defense.
