Top 10 Things I Would Like To See WWE Do in 2010
As 2010 fast approaches, one cannot help but think of New Year's resolutions. No I am not talking about a former WWE pay per view, I'm talking about those things people promise themselves they are going do in the New Year.
Well, this got me thinking, and I don't know if the WWE has made any as of yet, but here is a list of 10 things I would like to see in the WWE. By the way, these aren't in any particular order.
1. Give us match endings and story lines that actually make sense.
Too many times this year, things happened in matches or in story lines that had us saying "What?"
One example of this is how refs call countouts. How is it that one week, two guys can be fighting out side of the ring, one guy injures the other, rolls back into the ring and the ref re-starts the count.
The next week, both guys are outside of the ring, one guy crawls back into the ring and the ref continues the count as if both guys are outside the ring.
Another example is Kane and the Great Khali. Back in September, Kane and Khali were in the middle of a feud with each other that culminated at WWE Breaking Point. Three months later, all is forgiven and they're tag team partners on RAW.
Finally, don't get me started on the whole Kofi Kingston, "one minute he's Jamaican, next minute he's not" story that had no explanation.
2. No more matches where the same two guys fight each other 15 weeks in a row.
OK I exaggerated the 15 weeks part, but I think you know what I mean. Why we were subjected to week after week of watching Chavo Guerrero job to Hornswoggle is beyond me.
3. Make the WWE Championship actually look like a Championship.
Having your top championship belt in the company look like a piece of bling from a rap video doesn't make any sense anymore.
When John Cena first became WWE champion and had the whole rap gimmick going, it made sense, especially with him previously having the spinner US title.
Once he lost the US title, they returned the old belt back to what it was and the same should have been done when Cena lost the WWE Championship.
Instead, (because of replica belt sales) WWE continued with the spinner belt, which looked completely out of place.
Seeing guys like Randy Orton, RVD, Triple H, Edge (although at least at one point Edge had his own version of the belt) and Sheamus walking around with this belt makes no sense at all.
In fact if you take a look at John Cena's character now, it doesn't even make sense for him to sport this version of the belt.
When Cena won his first championship, Cena's character was this gangsta heel who would cut rapping promos. Now he is this guy who comes out salutes the fans, talks about honesty, loyalty, and respect, and portrays this hero persona.
He doesn't cut rapping promos anymore and has distanced himself from his gangsta character. So there is no point continuing with this version of the Championship.
4. Make ECW a relevant brand again.
OK, I realize the in this PG era in the WWE that ECW will never be what it once was, but that doesn't mean that it still can't be a relevant entertaining brand. In fact, of the three brands, it seems to be the only one that actually focuses on wrestling.
Personally, I would like to see a few things done to the brand that I think would increase viewership.
First get the brand off of syfy, and put it on a network that gets more viewership. Second, give ECW an identity that differentiates it from the other two brands. Third, have ECW representation in all the pay per views, especially pay per views that pit brand vs. brand.
Additional suggestions I have are, giving ECW another Singles title (Cruiserweight or Light Heavyweight Championship) and make the ECW title Gold, like every other important title in WWE.
By the way, I would like to thank Chris Mueller and his article "Crunching the numbers: A Look at WWE programing in general " for some of the ideas regarding ECW.
5. Give Christian a run at the top.
This is something that I would personally like to see mainly because he is one of my favorite Wrestlers. However I also feel that, of the wrestlers on the WWE roster that haven't won the top prize, he would have the most success.
I believe his combination of amazing mic skills and great in ring ability would make him(given the right storyline) a great WWE or World Heavyweight Champion.
I would also like to give honorable mention to guys such as Matt Hardy, Shelton Benjamin, Chavo Guerrero, MVP & John Morrison who have paid their dues and also deserve a chance at the top prize.
6. Reunite Edge And Christian as a tag team.
After seeing tag teams like DX & The Hardy's reunite, I think it's time we see the reunification of one of the WWE's most successful and entertaining tag teams. Edge and Christian have evolved so much since they were a tag team and I would be interested to see how this would play out.
7. Utilize all the championships to build rivalries and talent.
It would be nice if WWE decided to really promote all of their titles and use them to build rivalries and feuds. How many times have we seen pay per views come and go with certain titles not being defended.
Now I wouldn't have a problem with this if they decided to adopt a UFC approach and had different title defences spaced out though out the year.
If they continue with the monthly pay per views with both major titles always being defended, then it is only fitting that the other titles be defended as well.
8. No more guest hosts who know nothing about WWE.
I know the WWE is in love with the guest host idea and I will admit that some of the celebrity guest host's have been entertaining.
However, having celebrities host the show without having any idea of the WWE just cheapens the show. Hopefully the New Year will bring better checks and balances as to whom should host the show.
9. Change the Announce Teams.
Since the absence of JR, I feel that the announcing of action has been missing something. It also doesn't help when the announcer on your A show is more known for how many mistakes he makes per show that his announcing ability.
10. More Wrestlers involved in great wrestling feuds.
I would like to see WWE feature their talented wrestlers in great rivalries that yield great matches. It just seems that as of late WWE either repeats feuds until people are absolutely sick of them or they give us pointless comedy segments that only they find funny (i.e. Little Peoples Court)
These are just some of the ideas I have to improve WWE, anyways I just want to wish every one a happy New Year and thanks for reading.
