Urban Meyer Steps Down As Head Coach Of Gators: Is Arachnoid Cyst the Culprit?

Urban Meyer, head coach for the Florida Gators, has announced that he will resign after the Allstate Sugar Bowl according to a release from Florida AD Jeremy Foley.

During his remarkable five-year run in Gainesville, Meyer guided the Gators to two national championships and a Heisman Trophy award for lauded quarterback Tim Tebow.

While not much has been released yet about his condition, it is possibly related to the issue that caused him to check into a Gainesville-area hospital with dehydration just hours after the Gators' loss to Alabama in the SEC Title Game.

In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated , Meyer revealed that doctors discovered a cyst on his brain while he was an assistant at Notre Dame, which flared occasionally due to stress. This seems to be the likely culprit behind Meyer's dominant, if too short, run at the helm of the Gators.

According to ESPN.com, Meyer said, "I'm very appreciative for the opportunity I've had to be a part of a tremendous institution - from Dr. Machen to Jeremy Foley and the entire administrative staff at UF. I'm also very thankful for the chance to work with some of the best assistants in college football and coach some of the best college football players and watch them grow both on and off the field as people. I will cherish the relationships with them the most."

Meyer plans on remaining in Gainesville with his family and will stay involved with the Gators football program.
