It's Official: Quarterback Greg Paulus Aims for Career in NFL
We all knew Greg Paulus was going to Syracuse to play football for a reason.
And although the Orange went just 4-8 with Paulus as the play-caller, he still racked up quite an impressive number of yards and touchdown passes this past season.
Now, he’s aiming for even loftier goals: a career in the NFL.
Known primarily for his sparkling plays on the Cameron Indoor hardwood, the former Dukie is now hoping to continue playing sports for a living; just not basketball.
Instead, the former high school QB and one-year NCAA pigskin player is hoping to continue playing the sport he’s truly addicted to: football.
From four years under the greatest coach of all-time in Coach K, to the NFL? That’s got to be a first.
“I had a great time at Duke; I had a lot of fun there,” Paulus told the New York Daily News . “But if there’s more time to play and I can keep playing this game, I would love to do that and keep learning and keep growing with it because I had so much fun this year and playing it again. There’s nothing like playing football.”
So there you have it: Paulus is making the choice to throw touchdowns for a living over dishing out assists and draining long jumpers (as he did at Duke for four years).
However, as I said in prior columns before Paulus even began his NCAA football debut; if anyone can do it, Paulus can.
He has proved he can do it at the college level. The next question is, can Paulus be a successful NFL quarterback?
Only time will tell, but the former Duke guard is hoping to be taking snaps on Sundays in the very near future…
