Who Will I Miss The Most? What Happens When Shawn Michaels Is Gone?
He's the Showstopper, the Icon, Mr. Wrestlemania, the Heart Break Kid Shawn Michaels! Ever since I started watching WWE there has been only two characters to catch my eye. One being Rikishi, because when I was little I loved watching him give someone the stinkface. The other was Shawn Michaels, who gained my attention almost instantaniously.
I got the idea to write this tribute to my favorite wrestler when I read a piece about the Undertaker, written by Chris Mueller, which was a great article sir. Shawn is charismatic, intense, entertaining, hilarious, and talented. I watched a lot of wrestling growing up, but never continously until Wrestlemania 20. My brothers ordered the PPV and brought me in to witness the spectacle. I got to see a very intense match involving the Heart Break Kid.
Michaels was challenging for the World Heavyweight Championship in a Triple Threat against the Game Triple H and the Wolverine Chris Benoit, also a favorite of mine. I found myself automatically cheering for HBK, not even knowing why. When I saw Shawn Michaels hit Sweet Chin Music on Chris Benoit, who had locked in a sharpshooter on Triple H, I screamed and was jumping up and down, as I watched my brother's faces sadden... they were pulling for Benoit. Yes, I was made fun of a little for choosing the wrong guy, but I didn't care. That was my favorite from then on.
Ever since then I've seen all of the Showstopper's great matches, from the matches pre-WM20, to the greats recently. From Razor Ramon to Undertaker at WM 26, which I was lucky enough to order. Michael's has been in many great matches and rivalries, so what happens when he leaves?
What happens when Shawn Michaels leaves? There will always be someone coming in to fill in the former great's shoes. Some say John Morrison is that man. I think so, but he will never be the star Michaels is. Shawn's music, which he sang, gets a crowd who is in silence to stand on their feet and scream their lungs out. His HBK Elbow Drop pumps you up and makes you jump waiting for the finish. When he hits Sweet Chin Music, chills go down your spine.
Sure, there are good up and comers who will take the spots of the Undertakers, the Shawn Michaels, the Triple H's, Flairs, but they will never, ever be replaced. And when Shawn Michaels finally retires, I think that will finally end my fascination of the WWE. I know his time is coming, I just hope it isn't soon.
This has been a Bushboy Inc. Production.
