Caps Prospect Report: Eakin and Kugryshev lead prospects

Time for an update on  the Caps prospects.  Our last update was on December 2nd.     For a roster of the Washington Capitals top prospects, check out our Caps Page.   Here are the latest stats for the young prospects:

D Karl Alzner:  With the permanent reassignment of Michael Nylander and the freeing up of nearly $5 million on the salary cap, Karl Alzner has been recalled to Washington.  You have to think Alzner is now a permanent Caps.   PROMOTED TO WASHINGTON

F Francois Bouchard:  Francois Bouchard was a 2nd round pick of the 2006 NHL draft.  He is assigned to AHL Hershey Bears.   Through 27 games, Bouchard has 7 goals and 11 assists, fifth overall on the team in total points.  He has a +1 rating.

Draft Trends and Trade Targets 🧐

F Joel Broda :  The Capitals selected Broda in the 5th round of the 2008 NHL Draft.  Broda is  19 years old and in junior hockey in the WHL for the Calgary Hitmen.  Broda is having a heck of year so far.  He is second on Calgary in scoring.  Through 32 games, Broda has 18 goals and 22 assists.  Broad also has 10 power play goals and 1 short handed tally.  He has a +5 rating.

F Greg Burke:  Greg Burke was selected in the 6th round of the 2008 NHL draft.  Burke is a freshman at the University of New Hampshire.  He has played in 13 games for the Wildcats.  He has recorded 1 goal and  4 assists and has a -3 rating.

D John Carlson:  John Carlson was a 1st round pick of the 2008 NHL draft.   Carlson is another super prospect in the Caps system that is considered to be NHL ready.  Carlson leads the Hershey Bears defensemen in scoring.  In 26 games, he has 1 goal and 19 assists and a +15 rating.  Carlson also saw action with the Capitals for 3 games.  Carlson is the leading Bears defensive scorer.  [Read more →]
