Is There a Boxer Out There Who Can Beat Dr. Klitschko(s)?

Cliff EasthamDec 14, 2009

Doctor Klitschko, I presume? That doesnโ€™t sound right to me. The Heavyweight Champion of the World, Dr. Vitali Kitschko , or Dr. Wladimir Klitschko . That doesnโ€™t get it either.

Fighters are supposed to be tough, brawling, mean, and stereotypically not the brightest bulb on the shelf. Certainly, they are far removed from the image one receives when he hears the title Doctor.

I doubt seriously if there has ever been another boxer who was a Ph.D. I could be wrong, so allow me a little latitude, please.

It is almost like the three stooges. โ€œDr. Howard, Dr. Fine, Dr. Howardโ€. โ€œDr. Klitschko, Dr. Fine, Dr. Klitschko. You get the picture, right?

These two behemoths are more intelligent than the men calling the fight, promoting the fight, or anyone having anything at all to do with the fight. They are also totally thug. These guys come to fight. What makes them so good?

Size?ย  It maybe helps but that alone doesnโ€™t give you a terrific jab. Being a big boy doesnโ€™t necessarily give you the power to knock down a wall either. These guys have skills, hand speed, reflexes, and power.

They, at least Little Klitschko (as I like to refer to Wladimir), have shown to be somewhat resilient after being hurt (donโ€™t look at the Corrie Sanders film for evidence of this).

Samuel Peter knocked him down three times in their 2005 title fight, yet he still arose each time and won the fight with an unanimous decision.

Big Klitschko hasnโ€™t been truly rattled yet. Lennox Lewis hit him with some good shots, stunned him but didnโ€™t send him out on Queer Street. Corrie Sanders hit him with pretty much the same stuff he hit the Baby with, but to no avail.

He was busted up by Lewis in a fight that looked as though he may have been able to finish the champ off, but was stopped because of an ugly cut.

Light hitting former champ Chris Byrd owns the only other win off Big Klitschko, forcing him to retire after the ninth round because he blew out his rotator cuff. Klitschko was leading heavily on all three scorecards.

Together, they have done some serious damage to the heavyweight contenders and pretenders.

Obed Sullivan, Orlin Norris, Ross Purity, Larry Donald, Kirk Johnson, Sanders, Danny Williams (right after Williams stopped Mike Tyson in four), Peter, Juan Carlos Gomez, Chris Arreol and Kevin Johnson, are some of the bigger names that Vitali has defeated.

Both Arreol and Kevin Johnson were undefeated when they met up with Dr. K Big.

Dr. K Little has beaten some big names as well, Axel Schulz (who some think beat George Foreman), Monte Barrett, Byrd (twice), Francois Botha, Ray โ€œMercilessโ€ Mercer, Jameel McCline, Peter, Calvin Brock, Ray Austin, Lamon Brewster (won 1, lost 1), Sultan Ibragimov, Tony Thompson, Hasim Rahman, and Ruslan Chagaev. He pinned the first loss on four of those gentlemen.

So, seriously, who else is out there that can put on a show with these guys? We already know they will never fight each other. Brotherly love, not stable love like Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida.

What about David Haye, the new WBA champ? You can have him, itโ€™s hard to stand behind a man who got knocked out by a guy named Carl Thompson.

Maybe David Tua should fight someone with a little credibility and then call one of the Doctors?
