The Dentist's Return Is Neer

Josh Neer (25-9-1) is set to make his return to the cage on January 8th, 2010, just over a month after getting cut by the UFC following his loss at UFC 104.

Neer will be appearing on the local "Max Fights DM - Ballroom Brawl IV" card in his hometown of Des Moines, IA where he will take on challenger Matt Dellanoit.

Dellanoit (13-8-0) hails from Omaha, NE and is currently on a 2 fight losing streak, which includes a loss to newly signed Bellator fighter Ben Askren.

Also appearing in the same evening will be Hermes Franca, another former member of the UFC's roster.

Franca (19-8-0) whom last saw action at UFC 103, where he was beaten by Tyson Griffin via referee stoppage from strikes, will meet Eric Wisely (12-4-0) in a bout which will award the winner with Max Fights DM's interim Lightweight title.

Neer has many decisions to make after this fight, decisions which will all be centered on getting him back into the Octagon.

Neer has the option of staying local and competing in these types of shows until Dana White invites him back or he could choose to remain competitive by joining another promotion with immediate challenges.

Personally, I believe Neer should join Bellator and compete in their Lightweight tournament. If he wins out, then he will earn more recognition and after finishing his Bellator contract, will be a sure bet to be invited back to the UFC.

Also, in Bellator he can remain tested and ready to resume work back in the Octagon, whereas staying "local" could leave him a little rusty if he returns.

All in all, I am just happy to see Josh Neer back in the cage and ready to swing.
