NFL Week 14 Fantasy Fill-Ins

Before we get started, check out my Week 14 NFL picks .

I’ve uncovered some guys you can plug in if you are dealing with an injury or tough match-ups.

I told you about the guys who could struggle this week (click here for the article ). Now, let’s look at some guys you can plug into your fantasy lineups as you look to advance in the fantasy playoffs.

Alex Smith, QB, San Francisco 49ers
Smith has thrown eight TDs the past three weeks and faces Arizona’s 30th-ranked (257.8 yards allowed per game) pass defense. Vernon Davis is having an unbelievable year and Michael Crabtree is developing into a big time WR.

They are going to have to throw to keep up with Arizona, making Smith a nice sleeper play for the opening round of the fantasy playoffs.

Joe Flacco, QB, Baltimore Ravens

Flacco has regressed after starting the season off with a bang. He should be able to relive some of that early-season glory this week as he faces Detroit’s league-worst pass defense.

They have allowed more passing yards (274.8) and passing TDs (28) than any other team.

Vince Young, QB, Tennessee Titans

Who would have ever imagined that Alex Smith and Vince Young would be viable fantasy options in Week 14 when the season started? They couldn’t even beat out Shaun Hill and Kerry Collins, respectively.

VY faces St. Louis this week and he should produce with his arm and his feet. They just don’t have the athletes to keep up with him.

Jamaal Charles, RB, Kansas City Chiefs

Charles has produced every week since taking over the starting gig. He should continue his strong play against the league’s worst run defense (172.1 ypc). The Bills are also 30th in the league with 16 rushing TDs allowed.

Laurence Maroney, RB, New England Patriots

The Pats are getting healthy at RB, but Maroney remains the lead back. He has eight rushing TDs on the year, and is a good bet to score on Carolina, who is 22nd in the league with 12 rushing TDs allowed. The Panthers are 26th in rushing yards allowed (133.3 ypg).

Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch, RBs, Buffalo Bills

The Bills face Kansas City’s 27th-ranked run defense (143.8 ypg). After Lynch’s strong showing last week against the Jets, both Jackson and Lynch could be factors this week.

It’s hard to gamble on either one as an RB3, but they both make solid flex position plays this week.

 

Jeremy Maclin, WR, Philadelphia Eagles

DeSean Jackson could return this week, but Maclin will continue to play a large role in the offense. Jackson’s return should free Maclin up to make some big plays.

If Jackson can’t go or gets knocked out again, Maclin will get additional looks. Either way he should do well against the G-Men, who are tied for 22nd with 18 passing TDs allowed.

Michael Crabtree, WR, San Francisco 49ers

Maclin isn’t the only rookie poised for a big game this weekend. Crabtree faces Arizona’s 30th-ranked passing D. Like I mentioned above, the Niners are going to have to pass to keep up with the Cardinals.

 

Kevin Walter, WR, Houston Texans

Walter is averaging five receptions for 60 yards the past four games. He takes on Seattle this week, who is 25th in passing yards allowed (258.2) and 29th in passing TDs allowed (22).

The Texans also play at home, where Walter has averaged 13.8 more yards per week than away games.

 

Heath Miller, TE, Pittsburgh Steelers

Heath should have his way with the Browns and their 24th ranked pass defense (256.8 ypg). The last time they faced them, he had five catches for 80 yards and a score.

 

Jeremy Shockey, TE, New Orleans Saints

As if the Saints didn’t already have luck on their side, they get to face Atlanta’s 28th ranked pass defense (266.8 ypg) this week. The last time Shockey faced them, he had five catches for 72 yards.

 

Josh Scobee, K, Jacksonville Jaguars

Scobee takes on the Dolphins, who have allowed the most FGs (25) in the NFL. Scobee had three last week, and another multiple FG game seems likely.

 

Jeff Reed, K, Pittsburgh Steelers

Reed takes on the Browns, who have allowed 22 FGs this year. The last time he faced them he had two FGs and 3 PATs.

 

New York Jets Defense/Special Teams

They aren’t the same D they were earlier in the year, but Rex Ryan had plenty of time to come up with a scheme to confuse Tampa Bay Rookie QB Josh Freeman.

 

Tennessee Jets Defense/Special Teams

They had their winning streak snapped last week, but they should start a new one, and in dominating fashion, next week against St. Louis.
