India Cruise To Their Hundredth Win
Ojha to Welegedara, OUT, this Test is over, innings and 144 run victory for India, Welegedara closes the face of the bat too soon, leading edge pops up to Ojha, India celebrate their 100th Test win, dogged effort from Samaraweera but he has run out of partners
This was the way india registered their hundredth Test win. They defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and a 144 runs took a 1-0 lead in the three match Test series.
After a very high scoring match at Motera, the Indian in form batters, helped India post a huge total in the first innings of the match. Then the bowlers did their job by taking quick wickets and reducing the Lankans to 229 in their first innings. But the main credit goes to the pacer who made a fine comeback after eighteen months. Who was this pacer? Shantakumaran Sreesanth! He was responsible for the collapse of half of the Lankan side. He was awarded the Man of the match for his excellent figures of 5/75.
The Indians enforced the follow on on the Lankans and again got them all out on 269, thanks to the fine spell of Harbhajan Singh.
So in the end it was proved that the Lankans who scored 760 runs in the first Test were no match for the Indian bowlers and batters who scored 642 in the second. Well the main point proved was that they were solely dependent on Mahela Jayawardene, Tilkaratne Dilshan and Thilan Samaraweera for mommoth totals. Unfortunately these batsmen failed to stand strong against the Indian bowling attack.
Now India are looking to register another win in the third test and grabb the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test Rankings. But unfortunately it will be difficult for them to do so without the inform opener Gautam Gambhir.
Yes Gauti will not be available for the third Test because of his sisters wedding, which he has to attend. The wedding is on 3 December 2009 which is the second day of the third Test.
But this should not be a worry for India as Murali Vijay Krishna, a Tamil Nadu opener will fill in for Gauti and Rahul Dravid is also in good form.
So Best of Luck for the third Test India.
