"We won it five times, We won it five times!" A famous chant sung across Anfield stretching from the Kop End all the way to Anfield Rd. But this season, Liverpool FC fans might have to change it to "We won it three times" instead as they are now in the UEFA Europa League ever since results did not go their way following week five of the UEFA Champions League Fixtures.

But not all hope is lost. This is a tournament where Liverpool have won the coveted trophy three times in the past, and if you're an optimistic Liverpool fan, you would love to know that the last time Liverpool were victorious in this tournament was on German soil, following that dramatic 5-4 victory over Alaves. This year's final will be placed on German soil for only the second time since the Reds last won it.

Now, I am sure most of you Liverpool fans are disgusted at the sheer idea of anyone saying UEFA Europa league (otherwise known as UEFA CL's ugly sister) is the best thing for the club right now, the Reds have not won a trophy since that emphatic come back in Istanbul.

We all know that the current DEPTH of the squad Liverpool has can't make it all the way in the Champions League, and it was only a matter of time, in my opinion, 'til we were shown the exit sign. So the sooner the better, because if not in the group stage, then exiting at any other stage just means no European football for you 'til the next season.

Liverpool fans must remember that they are all but out of the EPL title race and all they can hope for is a top four finish, but with the emerging forces of Man City, Tottenham, and even Aston Villa and Sunderland will surely push Liverpool to the end for that top four finish AND that is why Europa League football is important.

Win it, and get automatic Champions League birth AND win a title in the process without worrying too much about a English Premier League that, let's face it, Liverpool are not fit enough to compete in this season.
