Liverpool Should Not Be Surprised.

Istanbul 2005 . A great comeback and a Wonderful Victory, in fact a Celebration of Liverpool's never say die attitude which for many years has been a foundation rock of British Football. Of course along with the Euphoria comes expectation and the belief that anything less than succsess is failure. Well if I were a Liverpool fan I would probably feel that this was a failure and that someone should be Punished for it , however this would be in my view a mistake. Liverpool have at present 3 World class Players , let me say that again. 3 World class Players . Gerarrd , Torres and Mascherano , well what happens when they get injured or suspended , what if they just don't play well ? think about it. You cannot expect them to compete for the Champions League or the Premier League for that matter with only 3 World class Players. Now I know some people will point out that they have won the champions League been in one other final and last year finished 2nd in the Premier League but cast your mind back 2 years , Arsenal finished just 4 points behind Manchester Utd and also reached the 2006 Champions League final in fact it would appear that Arsenal and Liverpool share a common problem. Everybody in the Media and to a large extent both sets of Supporters have Huge expectations for their respective Clubs. Why? Both Liverpool and Arsenal suffer from small pockets when compared to at least 3 of their English rivals , one could argue that even Tottenham have more money to spend than either of them. As for European Teams , well there is just no way either of them can  hope to have the resources that Madrid , Barca or AC have simply because of the way the Clubs are Run. You would think that these points are obvious but still the Fans and the Media get carried away and expect Trophies. The biggest reason for this is History. At present Liverpool are the most succsessful Club in English Football History , Arsenal  the third most . This is where the expectation really comes from and one can understand it to a point , but History is just that . History. Once again I can hear the cries of we won the Champions League 4 years ago and that's true but 4 years is about to become 5 and to to be fair you were a little bit fortunate to win it when you did. What Liverpool and Arsenal Fans need to understand is that Football has changed it's about money now and if you don't have it you cannot expect to win Trophies , I would say though it does not mean you can't win it just means you should not expect to win. For the last 4-5 Years Liverpool have been OVER achieving , Arsenal have been doing it even longer. It is a Testament to both Clubs that they continue to challenge for Trophies while the big two (now three) try to spend them into oblivion. If I were a Liverpool Fan I would keep the faith , it's not the end of the World and there will still be great victories in the future. But without an Oil rich Benefactor an 80'000 stadium and half the population of Asia buying your shirts it won't be as many victories as you would like.
