FC Porto vs. Chelsea Football Online Preview
Porto v Chelsea
25 November, 2009
Estádio do Dragão
Kick-Off: 19:45 GMT / 20:45 CET
Ahead of this FC Porto vs Chelsea clash, the Blues have been crushing everyone in their path this season, both domestically and in Europe.
Carlo Ancelotti’s fine tuned Chelsea machine hammered the Wolves on Saturday in a 4-0 victory. The Blues were without a number of first team regulars, but still dominated proceedings anyway.
Chelsea handed debuts to Gael Kakuta and Nemanja Matic. Kakuta, the centre of Chelsea’s problems with UEFA over an illegal transfer, came on in the second half and looked very impressive. The youngster’s pace and trickery showed signs of a star in the making.
Matic also looked sharp in the centre of Chelsea’s midfield. Even Fabio Borini came on to claim his second appearance for the club this season. The Italian striker came on with 10 minutes remaining and showed signs of life when the game was already well beyond Wolves.
After the walk-over against the Wolves, Ancelotti will likely field a stronger side for this FC Porto-Chelsea Champions League clash.
Porto will play host to Chelsea at the Dragao Stadium on Wednesday night to likely determine the winner of Group D.
Both teams are already through to the knockout stage after dismantling Apoel Nicosia and Atletico Madrid. All that remains to be seen is whether Porto or Chelsea will claim first in the group.
FC Porto have hit a bit of a speed bump in their last two games in the Portuguese Liga. The club that normally displays a reliable dominance lost prior to the international break on Nov. 8, 1-0 to Maritimo.
Before that, FC Porto only managed a 1-1 draw against Belenenses, and there is a slight risk that the club is a bit out of form.
Still, with Chelsea coming to town and nearly three weeks since their last match, the Portuguese side will undoubtedly come into this Porto vs. Chelsea match with fresh legs and a definite purpose to their game.
Chelsea won the first meeting at Stamford Brige by 1-0, courtesy of a Nicolas Anelka goal just after halftime.
The game was tight and very entertaining, as should be the case on Wednesday.
Rarely do teams come to the Dragao Stadium and walk away with three points.
