New York Yankees Team Awards

A World Series win came to New York for the first time in nine years.  The team was great, but who was best?  Here are my picks for the Yankees team awards:

MVP:  A tough pick, but I am going with Mark Teixeira.  The biggest reason is most likely that he received more MVP votes than any other player on the team, but his stats were there, too.  A .292 average and 39 home runs allowed Teixeira to show off his surprising mix of power and average.  He also won the gold glove at fist base.  In my opinion, if he had had a great playoffs, he could have been the AL MVP.  Tex just edged Jeter to win team MVP.

Cy Young:  Without a doubt, MO.  Name a better clutch pitcher.  Name a better closer.  Name a better pitcher in the playoffs.  Name a pitcher who's nastier.  Mo deserves it more than Sabathia and Pettitte combined.  He had yet another Mariano season, and definitely deserves some recognition.  (BTW, Mo got more votes than C.C. for MVP...)

Team Gold Glove:  Again, Tiexera is just barely going to edge Jeter for this spot.  Tex lead the re-vamped Yankees D with his golden glove at the right end of the diamond.

Rookie of the Year:  Francisco Cervelli takes the award uncontested.  He hit .298 in 64 games with the Yankees, and showed some good clutch hitting.  His glove has continued to improve.

Rolaids Relief:  Mo-ro.  Any questions?

Roberto Clemente:  Derek Jeter:  The most charitable Yankee.

Best Fan-Player Moment:  I call it the Brett Gardner adventure:  Brett promised the little girl a homer, and he gave it to her, just in his own way.
