Last season Arsenal's Alexandre Song was lacking maturity, intelligence and experience. But come 2009/2010 Alexandre Song is a completely different player.

The Cameroonian is a tireless worker who has rebuilt the gaping hole that  departures of Gilberto Silva, Patrick Vieira, and Mathieu Flamini left. The 22-year-old contribution to the defensive side of the Arsenal midfield has been superb. The amount of meters he receive from tracking back to aid his back four is phenomenal. Plus the way he chops down opposing midfield attacks has also ensured a positive start to the Arsenal campaign.

As Arsenal suffered their third defeat of the season to the hands of a doughty Sunderland side, one standout performer for Arsene Wenger was none other than the Cameroon international. At points in the game Song single-handedly carried the lackluster Arsenal middle four and created Arsenal's two best chances of the game.

Consistency was also another problem that Song suffered last season but thankfully this season him, alongside new boy Thomas Vermaelen and right back Bacary Sagna, is the most consistent performer so far and has established himself as a vital part of the Arsenal XI.

So Alexandre Song new form has brought on the question: Is he becoming one of the world's best midfielders?

Currently the former Bastia lacks none of the skills the likes of Javier Mascherano, Esteban Cambiasso, Gennaro Gattuso, and Jeremy Toulan posses. He boasts a massive workload, strong tackling, smart passing and intelligence.

If Song's impressive form is maintain throughout the season he will surely attract serious attention from the European giants (Manchester City too) but do you think he is becoming one of the world's best defensive midfielders.
