TCU, BSU, and UC don't know it yet, "But Not Everyone Can Play"
It’s an eternal question we’ve heard over and over and over again. Is the Bowl Championship Series the best thing for football, or would college football be better off with a playoff system? What do you think? What do you think Auburn thought in 2004? What do you think Utah thought last year after they went undefeated beating Alabama in the Sugar Bowl? What about TCU, Boise State, Texas, Alabama, Florida, and Cincinnati? When all is said and done this year 4 of these teams could be undefeated yet only one will be deemed “The National Champion”. Do you think the other 3 teams will think it’s a good system?
I don’t, and I know most of you don’t! According to those who voted on a poll posted by The Dan Patrick Show on DanPatrick.com 72% believe we need some sort of playoff system to crown a national champion. One person who doesn’t think a playoff system would work is Bill Hancock Executive Director of the BCS. Yet Bill completely ignores the major flaw that IS the BCS.
Dan Patrick had an interview with Bill on his show the other day, and Bill did not acknowledge any of the many flaws that Dan pointed out in the system. He talked like it was the best thing in the world and there was not a thing wrong with it.
When Dan asked what do you tell Cincinnati when they go undefeated and don’t play for the national title Bill simply responded
“You simply say to them you guys had a great season and you should be congratulated”.
THEE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR of the BCS wants to give Cincinnati a good game butt pat and send them on their way. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS MAN?
This is why the system sucks, this is why the system won’t change because you have close minded idiots in charge. People who don’t see the bigger picture. People who have never set foot on a field, or court, or a diamond, and felt the desire to be crowned the champion!
But wait it gets better, he then expounds on his Cincinnati comment saying
“Yea they are undefeated, but you know what are their now 6 of them now that are undefeated, so not everybody can play”
! DING, DING, DING, DING. WE HAVE A WINNER, TELL HIM WHAT HE’S WON JOHNNIE!!!!
Its dead smack right in his face and he doesn’t see it. He says it himself and he is too blinded by stupidity, ignorance, money or whatever it is to see what is wrong with this system. Not everyone can play for the National Championship and it was said by The Executive Director of the BCS.
Bill also thinks that Boise State has a chance to play for the BCS title. HAHAHAHA did you laugh more then I did? NO WAY. The planets could align and Elvis and 2Pac could return from the dead and it still wouldn’t happen. Even if every undefeated team lost between now and the end of the year, Boise still wouldn’t play for the championship, and he and every potato in Idaho knows it, but he won’t admit it because of one simple reason, Boise State doesn’t sell. Florida sells, Alabama, LSU, USC, OSU, they sell, but Boise State doesn’t. Why do you think a 2 loss Ohio State team made it in to the BCS last year and a undefeated Boise State team didn’t? Because whether you love them or hate them, OSU sells!
Bill says the problem with a playoff is Who? When? Where? Well since Bill doesn’t have any intelligence to think about it and figure out how to do it himself, then I will.
Who: Well I say you use the system in place, you’ll have to decide if you want a 4, 8, 12, 16 game playoff, but you already have the BCS which ranks teams decently well, so you can use it!
When: Bill argues that you can’t have a playoff in December because of finals. Well doesn’t bill realize that everyone already plays games in December? All the bowl games are in December and the beginning of January, which is exactly when all the finals are around the country.
The college basketball season is in full swing in December, they don’t stop for finals. Just cause college kids have finals to study for they means they can’t play football, but they can play basketball! That makes a lot of sense. And if it is really that big of a problem, start the season 2 weeks earlier, cut out one of the two bye weeks most teams have. Shorten the season by one game. Don’t wait halfway through December to start the bowl games. You can work around it, and we are only talking about a handful of teams here, not the whole nation!
Where: Simple, you use the BCS games that are already in place. You play the playoff games as part of the bowl system at the Rose, Sugar, Orange, and Fiesta Bowls. Then you simply pick and rotate which bowls has it each year.
There you go Bill. It took me 10 minutes to come up with solutions to each of your questions. If you and your buddies at the BCS need me to workout the finer details just let me know and I’ll have it out to you in a couple days.
I mean really, Bill is this the best you have, because you simply sounded uninformed and blinded. He was unprepared, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about and its obvious why the system hasn’t changed. If he’s the Executive Director I’d hate to see the rest of the people in charge!
I encourage everyone to go to danpatrick.com to here the whole interview because trust me if you want to get pissed off, you will. So to all the UC, TCU, BSU, Auburn, and Utah fans, and hell, everyone else getting screwed out of seeing what we really want to see
“Sorry your screwed, but not everybody can play”
