What To Expect: A Look Ahead To Twenty-Ten

The season that the 2010 Nationals will have will be determined by Mike Rizoo, who has done an excellent job so far. There are two holes in the team. Pitching and a Second baseman.

Ian Desmond is going to be the everyday shortstop unless he loses the job, which is unlikely. Moving Cristian Guzman over to second base. There are also some good possibilities on the market. Orlando Hudson would look good in our Nation's Capital.

Heres my line-up possibilities for next year.

If Guzman is the 2nd baseman:

Nyjer Morgan- CF
Cristian Guzman-2B
Ryan Zimmerman-3B
Adam Dunn-1B
Josh Willingham-LF
Elijah Dukes-RF
Jesus Flores-C (If he's back in time)
Ian Desmond- SS
Pitchers Slot

With Hudson at second:

Nyjer Morgan- CF
Orlando Hudson-2B
Ryan Zimmerman-3B
Adam Dunn-1B
Josh Willingham-LF
Elijah Dukes-RF
Jesus Flores-C
Ian Desmond- SS
Pitchers Slot

If Flores is not back:

Nyjer Morgan- CF
Orlando Hudson-2B
Ryan Zimmerman-3B
Adam Dunn-1B
Josh Willingham-LF
Elijah Dukes-RF
Ian Desmond- SS
Wil Nieves-C (Or a veteran hold-over, Rod Barajas of Toronto maybe)
Pitchers Slot

With Dan Uggla at Second:

Nyjer Morgan- CF
Ian Desmond- SS
Ryan Zimmerman-3B
Adam Dunn-1B
Dan Uggla-2B
Josh Willingham-LF
Elijah Dukes-RF
Jesus Flores-C (If he's back in time)
Pitchers Slot

There are other possibilities but those are the ones that I see most likely. I would like to see Hudson with DeRosa being signed as a utility bench player.

The issue of Jesus Flores not being back in time is not too major actually. FLores is the catcher of the future for this organization. Good bat, great D. I think Wil Nieves is a great back-up and perfectly capable of starting until Flores is ready. Rod Barajas is who I would sign if you wanted to go that road.

The rotation. Well heres where he get's interesting. John Lannan, Scott Olsen, and if he comes back Livan Hernadez are all garunteed spots. I think that J.D. Martin has earned a spot in the rotation. Craig Stammen also has it. Hes really got good stuff. The rest is up to Spring Training. The team is going to miss J. Zimmermann this year. However if Livo comes back then you only need one more starter. Between Garret Mock, Ross Detwiller, and Netherland product Shairon Martis I think you can find a starter there. You also have Collin Balester, Matt Chico, Marco Estrada, Luis Atilano. Theres plenty of arms that could step up. The clock however will be ticking until we see number 37 toe the rubber for the first time. That day could begin a dominant Hall-of-Fame career.

Rotation Possibilities:

1. Lannan------1. Lannan
2. Olsen--------2.Olsen
3. Hernadez----3.Stammen
4. Stammen----4. Martin
5. Martin-------5. Martis

And so on. It really depends who steps up in Spring Training.

Lannan and Olsen are garunteed spots, as well as Hernadez.

For the Bullpen. You know that the lefty Burnett, Bergmann, MacDougal, and Tyler Clippard will be back. Saul Rivera is not garunteed a spot bu he may reutrn. Drew Storren will be there soon. Very soon. He will probably be a set-up man at first. I think the team should sign Mike Gonzales of Atlanta.

Bullpen:

LRP- Clippard*- RH
MRP- Burnett*- LH
MRP- Bergmann*- RH
MRP- Saul Rivera-RH
SU- Storren-RH
SU- Mike Gonzales(if signed)- LH
C- MacDougal*- RH

Alot is going to depend on what Rizzo does and who performs at SPring Training.
