Villanueva Gettin' Hot: Pistons Proving Their Defense

It took a few games, but Charlie Villanueva has finally stepped up to what Joe Dumars brought him and Ben Gordon in for. Charlie V started off slow, but the last 5 games he has been hot from the court, averaging about 21 points per game compared to his 9 points per game in the first four games.

It all started a few games ago, against the Orlando Magic. Starting off slow in the game, but somehow, in the 4th quarter, he became a scoring machine and could not miss. Ever since he scored 28 points (17 in the 4th) against the Orlando Magic in their second meeting, he has been hot from the court.

Putting up 28 against Orlando, 16 against Philadelphia, 30 against Charlotte, and putting up 25 just last night against the Washington Wizards, Charlie V has finally stepped up as the scoring threat Joe D brought him in for.

Everyone questioned how the Pistons would play putting up all this money bringing in Charlie V and Ben Gordon, mostly questioning the defense. Well look at the stats.

The Pistons have been without Rip and Tayshaun since the third game of the season, and have managed to carry a 5-4 record. That is pretty impressive losing two of their best defensive players.

Even without Rip and Tay, the Pistons have one of the top 5 defenses in the NBA. A lot of it revolves around..Guess who.. Ben Wallace. Who everyone thought wouldn't do much for the Pistons, but is already looking like he could pull in another defensive player of the year award.

With the Pistons playing the way they have been, stepping up their defense in a big way, and scoring big with their 3 guard lineup consisting of Will Bynum, Ben Gordon, and Rodney Stuckey, along with Charlie Villanueva putting up big numbers now, this team has a bright season ahead of them. Once Rip (another huge scoring threat), and Tay (providing even more defense) come back, this team will be one exciting team to watch, and will inch their way towards the top of the Eastern Conference.

It seems as though signing Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva will provide a bright future for the Detroit Pistons!!!
