A Look at the 2009-2010 College Basketball Season
The college basketball season has already started with teams such as North Carolina, Kansas and Syracuse playing games.
This season should be exciting as teams vie for a national championship. Here is a look at the top 10 teams in college basketball this season:
Kansas is the No. 1 team in the nation right now, and should be. They have the experience, the talent, and a great coach who looks to lead them to a national championship.
The Jayhawks return starters Sherron Collins, and Cole Aldrich, who will look to carry this team. Freshman Thomas Robinson, and Xavier Henry will look to make an impact this season, too, as they are highly touted recruits for this Kansas basketball team.
Sophomore twins Markieff and Marcus Morris will also look to make an impact for this team.
Michigan State is the No. 2 team in the nation right now, and is coming off a tough loss to North Carolina in the national championship game last year. They return a good group of players, and have an excellent coach in Tom Izzo.
The Spartans lost Goran Suton, but have Durrell Summers, Kalin Lucas, and Raymar Morgan back to lead this team.
Kalin Lucas led this team deep last season, and showed why he is a top point guard with his performance in the NCAA tournament last year.
The Texas Longhorns are the No. 3 team in the nation. Some of their key returnees are Damion James, Dexter Pittman, and Gary Johnson. Their top recruit, Avery Bradley, could help bring some much needed scoring for this team.
They also have added transfer Jai Lucas to help this team. This team will have to have strong point guard in order to go far this season.
The North Carolina Tar Heels are the No. 4 team in the country, and the defending national champions. The Tar Heels lost a lot of key players, but gained a lot of good recruits. Not to mention Deon Thompson and Marcus Ginyard will be the leaders on this team.
Thompson is an excellent rebounder, and Ginyard can be a player that does it all, like score, pass, rebound, and play defense.
The Tar Heels bring in a very good recruiting class, and have two good recruits in freshman twins Travis and David Wear. Tyler Zeller, Ed Davis, and Larry Drew are all sophomores that can contribute too.
Kentucky is the No. 5 team in the country and have a new coach. John Calipari inherits a rising star in Patrick Patterson, and brings in John Wall, who is a freak, and a very good basketball player. Success this season all depends on how well Calipari's system works for the Wildcats.
Villanova is the No. 6 team in the country, are coming off a Final Four appearance. The Wildcats lose some key players from its Final Four team last year, but still have Scottie Reynolds. This team could be a sleeper late again this year.
Purdue is the No. 7 team in the country and has a few returning starters that could spark this team deep into March. The Boilermakers bring back guard E'Twuan Moore, Chris Kramer, Keaton Grant, and Lewis Jackson.
These guys can score, play good defense, and have a year of experience with them, after making it to the Sweet Sixteen last season.
Duke is the No. 8 team in the country, and has a preseason All-American to start the season. Kyle Singler is a player who can do a little of everything, not to mention now he can preseason All-American to his resume.
Duke lost big-time scorer Gerald Henderson to the NBA, but have a good group of players returning for the Blue Devils. Jon Scheyer, Singler, and Nolan Smith will look to lead this team deep in to March this year.
This team also has some good freshman that they have added. Freshman Mason and Miles Plumlee will look to make the biggest impact as freshman for the Blue Devils.
West Virginia is the ninth best team in the country right now. The Mountaineers return a good group of players, including David Eubanks. Da'Sean Butler also returns for this team. This team will look to be the best team in the Big East this season.
Butler is the No. 10 team in the country. Butler returns Matt Howard, who is their best player, and Gordon Hayward, and Shelvin Mack will also look to make an impact for the mid-major Bulldogs. This team could be a spoiler time as March comes.
Other top teams to watch for this season are: Washington, Connecticut, Tennessee, Washington, and California.
Now tune into the season, and watch to see who will be the best teams in college basketball in 2009-2010.
