An Open Letter To Those Who Hate Pro Wrestling

Lately it seems that any article I read that has a significant amount of comments, there is a trend, there is always someone on the comment board stating that "Wrestling is fake and stupid."

I have a question for these people, do you actually think that we believe that the WWE and other pro wrestling is not planned in advance?  Of course we know the outcome is predetermined and that they are not really trying to hurt each other.  No one has thought wrestling was real since Vince broke the fourth wall and started calling it Sports Entertainment.

That's not why the loyal fans watch.  We watch because it is entertaining.  It is an overblown, overacted and often times unpredictable form of entertainment.  Pro Wrestling is no more scripted than say, any other TV show.  It is meant to have the illusion of feuds, fights, and injuries.

We tune in week after week to see what our favorite superstars will do next just like all the tweens tune into Vampire Diaries to see what the young vampires will do next or all the, I guess idiots, who watch Real Housewives of wherever.  The difference being, wrestling can surprise you.  Television shows, for the most part, follow a predictable formula which makes plots easy to decipher five minutes into the show.  While wrestling may have some predictability to it these days, it's not without its "Oh My God" moments.

I have been a wrestling fan for as long as I can remember, and my whole life I have taken criticism from those who find it stupid and think that fans believe it's real.  Did that ever stop me from watching? No. Why not? Because I didn't care what those people thought, because I knew they were going home to watch "Saved By the Bell" again while I was on my way to the arena to see Bret Hart.  Don't get me wrong, "Saved By the Bell" was awesome for my generation, but I knew what would happen every episode before the opening credits stopped rolling.

Many people try to equate UFC to Pro Wrestling, which is understandable. They both portray fighting.  The difference here is that while UFC fights are real, the fighters are boring as hell outside the ring, except for Chuck Lidell who is pretty funny.  Wrestlers are entertainers, and they do their job well.  They go out their every night and risk their lives and careers so we can cheer our butts off.

Here's another question to the haters, How is UFC better than Pro Wrestling for entertainment value?  Wrestling has spectacle, music, flare, and most importantly, amazing moves from the performers.

When was the last time anyone in UFC excited a crowd like Jeff Hardy did when he swantoned Bubba-Ray through two tables during a TLC match?  I'll tell you when, never.

When was the last time you saw a guy the size of Rey Mysterio fight a guy the Size of Batista in UFC? Not in years since the introduction of weight classes.  (Stupid move by the way, UFC was better 10-15 years ago.)

So to those who hate pro wrestling and think people who like it are stupid I have only one thing to say, you are the ones who are  naive for assuming we think it's all real.  Give it a chance and you may find that's it's more entertaining than the 2164 reality shows playing on other channels these days.
