BUI fully endorses your upcoming decision to fire Charlie Weis.

You are sure to call upon Nick Saban and Urban Meyer, and are wise to do so. I suggest a long and public courtship. This is not the time for knee-jerk decisions. Let the word get out and see how these two uber-candidates handle the pressure. Sure, the fan bases at Alabama and Florida will not like it, but you cannot be concerned with that. Let it be a two-man race and let that race begin sooner rather than later, after all you have recruiting to think about.

Granted, Meyer and Saban are better than just about every other college football coach out there. And not every program seriously can throw around the names of the big boys. But this is Notre Dame, home of the Golden Dome and Touchdown Jesus and the Gipper and so much else.

Yes, around here we believe SEC football is the best—and it is—but Notre Dame is, well, Notre Dame. If it calls, you better believe people will listen. And when people listen, good coaches get new jobs or raises. That’s the coaching circle of livelihood.
