Cleveland Browns Owner Eyeing Mike Holmgren

Kevin RobertsNov 9, 2009

ESPN is reporting that Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner is looking into a major NFL&hl=158280&id=2566" title="upgrade in the front office" target="_blank">upgrade in the front office , sifting through big names such as Giants GM Ernie Accorsi, former Pacers GM Ron Wolf, and Falcons President Rich Mckay.

Oh, and then there's Mike Holmgren.

Lerner is reportedly eyeing Holmgren as a potential Bill Parcells-type VP of football operations, which would give him total control of the team, the roster, and coaching, but wouldn't require the mental and emotional strain of calling the shots from the sidelines.

While it still remains to be seen if Holmgren, or any of the other supposed candidates, for that matter, would be interested, it's still worth noting that Cleveland's ownership is looking toward a new direction.

This news is no surprise, as it follows the firing of player personnel director T.J. McCreight last week.

The Browns are expected to make a decision on the future of their football team within the next month, and there is no guarantee that the new man in charge will retain head coach Eric Mangini, who is just 1-7 in his first season with the Browns.
