Has It Been Two Years Since Georgia's Black-Out?

A special day in the Classic City!

The Georgia Bulldogs will celebrate an anniversary of sorts this Saturday against the Auburn Tigers. It was two years ago that Coach Mark Richt asked the fans to black out Sanford Stadium. They did, and he broke out the black jerseys.

Good times.

I don’t believe anyone in Bulldawg Nation wants to see the black pulled out again Saturday, or any Saturday for a long time to come.

If we exclude the Sugar Bowl against a very undermanned Hawaii team, the Bulldogs are just 1-2 wearing black. I personally think, when considering the shear humiliation that was inflicted upon us, the Bama and Florida games should be given added weight. Therefore, I give the black a 1-4 BUI record.

The really smart people say a star is brightest right before it explodes, collapsing under its own weight. Perhaps that ‘blackout” against Auburn was symbolic of the supernova Georgia.

For a stretch of five games in 2007, the Dawgs were as hot as anything in college football. A No. one preseason ranking for 2008. A big show down against Alabama. Blackout.

An Alabama coach, no doubt a part time physicist, stated we were wearing black because it would be our funeral. Looking at Georgia’s record since, I have to wonder if that coach hit any lottery tickets that week.

What a ride these two years have been. I hope Georgia has hit bottom and will not bounce. I hear “blacking out” is a sign of a problem.

After two disastrous black outs, I pray Coach Richt will acknowledge we have a problem and place us on the road to recovery this offseason. Even if we beat Auburn.
