Fedor Emelianenko Stops Brett Rogers in the Second Round with a Right Hand

King JNov 7, 2009
Fedor Emelianenko the greatest mixed martial arts heavyweight of all time and quite arguably the greatest mixed martial arts fighter of all time stopped the undefeated fast rising star heavyweight Brett Rogers tonight in their CBS broadcast Strikeforce/M-1 Global fight in his own backyard just outside of Chicago.

Brett the "Grim" Rogers now with a record of 11(9)-1 had his moments in the fight. Rogers landed a jab right at the beginning of the fight that instantly cut Fedor's nose causing him to bleed profusely down. There was also a moment in the first round where Rogers ended up on top of Fedor on the ground and started to pound away at his face.

Although Fedor was bested by these brief exchanges he utilized his far superior ring generalship and ground game to dominate any strengths that Rogers displayed.
In the second round Fedor landed a big right hand cleanly on the chin of Rogers knocking him down hard just as the announcer called him the kid from Cabrini Green.

(For those of you who do not know Cabrini Greenย was the most notoriously dangerous gang infested housing project in the world. The mere fact that one is from there already provides them with a reputation that they are: tough, street smart, have a ton of heart, and will not back down from anything)
Fedor then jumped on Rogers with a series of wild punches when the referee intervened to stop the fight at 1:48 seconds as a TKO.
Fedor improves his record to 33(8)-1-1.

In the post-fight interview Fedor said he would be open to a rematch if Rogers would like one and dedicated his victory to all of his Russian people and fans. Rogers still very upset and shocked over the sudden tko loss and only loss expressed his strong interest in a rematch as well.

Personally I found this fight to be great and exciting. We saw Fedor the so called greatest MMA fighter of all time struggle at times against a hungry undefeated powerhouse from the hardestย neighborhood in the world,ย but he showed how much of a master he was by being the superior fighter on so many different levels and ultimately ending it all with the almighty TKO stoppage.

I felt this was an actual KO for Rogers fell so hard the referee could have just waived it off before Fedor jumped on him and opened up to make it official.

Fedor like many other great fighters has many haters out there but I think even the haters were impressed tonight. Congrats to CBS for broadcasting this fightย card which did not have the biggest names but it was still a great cardย for all the true MMA fans out there.
