Game 6: Pedro The Key?

NEW YORK - OCTOBER 29: Starting pitcher Pedro Martinez #45 of the Philadelphia Phillies comes out of the game in the seventh inning against the New York Yankees in Game Two of the 2009 MLB World Series against at Yankee Stadium on October 29, 2009 in the Bronx borough of New York City. In game 2, baseball fans across the world saw a very intruiging matchup.  It was a matchup that we are use to seeing, but in a much different way.  Stepping onto the mound was Pedro Martinez ready to face the Yankees on the biggest stage of them all.  However, we saw him in a uniform labled "Philadelphia", and not "Boston".

We all know the history of Pedro Martinez and the Yankees.  For years, it was the meat that fans loved to chew on when it came to baseball.  There are so many stories to tell.  Pedro striking out 17 in the Bronx.  Pedro throwing Don Zimmer to the ground in the epic 2003 ALCS game 3 brawl. Pedro calling the Yankees his daddy.  The list goes on and on.  In game 2, we saw another storie added to the list right in front of our eyes.  Even though Pedro walked away with a tough-luck loss, he showed the Yankees he still has something left.  Tonight, he will have another opportunity to take down his biggest foe.

Right now, game 6 could very well end up being game 7.  This game is so important for the Phillies, so important that if they win, they could very well end up being this decade's first back to back champions.

Right now it is Pedro Vs. Pettite, who have competed against each other in the biggest rivalry in sports for years.  But will they decide the outcome?  In my opinion, no, they will not, but they will be huge keys.  Expect both of them to shut down both club's offenses in the early going, but expect that the first one to falter will be out of the game quickly.  Game 6 is going to require alot more grit than any other game in this entire postseason, so expect to see the bullpens summoned and giving it their all down to the wire.

Another factor in this game is going to come down to the managers.  Will Manuel and Girardi continue to make a poor decision?  If one of them do, it can easily decide how the tide shifts in this game.

What do I think will happen?  Well, you can't predict baseball, but if I were to throw anything on the table, I'd say Pedro is going to have a trick or two up his sleeve, because this could very well be the last start of his legendary career.  Game 7?  Now thats going too far.
