Dale Earnhardt Jr. Leaves Pocono with Another Top-Five Finish

Jennifer WhitakerJun 8, 2008

Dale Earnhardt Jr. managed to pull off another top-five finish for himself and his crew at Hendrick Motorsports.

Though it looked like a pit strategy was going to help Earnhardt off to a possible win with fewer than twenty laps to go, it seemed as though his tires just couldn't manage to outdo those with four fresh ones.

The decision to stay off the pit road on the final caution of the race gained Dale a second place position for the last restart.

After the green flag dropped, Kasey Kahne and Denny Hamlin came on strong, and got by Junior after a brief struggle fighting for the position. Earnhardt was obviously hungry for a win and was trying everything in his power to get his car back into victory lane.

There was nothing for fans to complain about, though, Junior's had a great season in 2008 thus far. With six top fives and ten top tens, he's clearly doing just fine for himself.

In an earlier article from the AP this year, Junior said that his main goal was just that, "consistency." He's definitely shown his fans that he hasn't forgotten his talent and never did, he just needed better equipment to work with. He's definitely got that and it shows. I have a feeling a win is lurking around the corner for Dale Earnhardt Jr. very soon.

He deserves to win and just prove to himself that he made a great decision. Although he won the Budweiser Shootout at the start of the year as well as his segment of the Gatorade Duel, he hasn't actually won a point race since Richmond in 2006.

I'm sure he will keep clawing and fighting his way to a victory. It's time to seal the deal, buddy. You've been flirting with victory lane all season, it's time to sweep that lady off her feet and take her home with you. It won't be long, Junior, just hang in there.

You know you've got what it takes, and your fans know it too, now if only we could get luck to pull all of those factors together in one weekend, we'd be great!

Third place is awesome though, but what's better than a race victory? A championship that's what!

He's on his way! Next weekend it's off to Michigan, a great two-mile long track where the guys hit speeds around 200 miles per hour. Sad that I won't be there to see it, although I'm still floating on memories of last year there. Go get 'em this weekend Junior, show 'em what you're made of!
