(Bay Bay Thomas is having a big first half in Nashville.)

Just some scattered observations. Be back with you after the game.

  • Georgia Tech's open-field tackling is horrendous. Come to it, all of Georgia Tech's tackling is horrendous.
  • Josh Nesbitt has come so far as a passer in the last year and a half. When he's passing now, he has the poise and touch (mostly) of just about any good quarterback in the conference.
  • The Jackets are scaring you, aren't they? Remember, this game doesn't matter in Georgia Tech's road to the ACC title, but what kind of statement would you be making about the program if you lost to the SEC's only winless team?
  • Dave Wommack had better have some half-time adjustments. The longer Vandy stays in this game, the worse things get for Georgia Tech.
  • Truthfully, Vanderbilt hasn't played awful against the option. The 'Dores aren't playing great, but I think the stats are deceiving.
  • This team seems incapable of putting together a solid offensive and defensive performance in the first half this year.
  • I'll admit it, I look pretty dumb, calling Georgia Tech the ACC's best BCS option right before this defensive performance. There's still a whole half left, but believe me, this defense in a BCS bowl would be ugly.
  • What does it say about Demaryius Thomas that every team knows that on almost every pass play, he's where the ball is going, and he still gets his yards? It says he's pretty good.
  • Games like this one help me appreciate Wes Durham, Tech's radio play-by-play man, even more. Not that I'm saying anything about the Worldwide Leader or any of its commentators.
  • Definitely got the third-teamers on camera angles too. Oh well.
  • This second half has to be a statement. The thing about being Georgia Tech is that you're not just trying to buck the system a little bit, passing Miami, Florida State, Virginia Tech, etc. You're also fighting that perception that you're not an elite program, that you and your cute little offense make for some entertaining football, but when it's time for big boy recess, you need to go back inside. This is where Tech can separate itself. Or not.
