If one listens to the so called 'college football experts' in newspapers, on line, television and radio one would think that the Boise State vs. Oregon game should just be thrown out in all consideration of present college football polls.

We are now hearing the cries of "Oregon is just a much better team now" - or - "It was the first game of the season so it should be discounted."  And of course we are still hearing (louder and louder) the old standby "But Boise State doesn't play anybody!."  Well, they played Oregon and the Ducks are now ranked in the top 10.  Oh, I forgot.  It was the first game of the season and Oregon is much better now.

First of all, which teams in college football are actually worse than they were in their first games?  Is Boise State worse now?  I don't think so.  Let's face the facts here.  BSU beat Oregon and the score would make it appear the game was much closer than it actually was.  Boise State dominated Oregon.  Check the statistics.  Oregon was held to 152 total yards and their All-American running back candidate (since removed from the team for now) had minus yardage on 9 carries including being tackled in the end zone for a safety.

Next, let's consider the fact that Boise State went into the much feared confines of Autzen Stadium last year and beat the Ducks on their home field.  Fluke?  I don't think so.

Granted, the polls must give Boise State credit (and they do) for the win over Oregon.  My 'beef' is with the 'experts' who are all over the Broncos right now for being considered as a BCS bowl team.  Gee, the last time Boise State went to a BCS bowl I believe they beat a fairly good Oklahoma team.  Or was that Oklahoma team just not as good as they were during the season?

Let's give credit where credit is due.  Boise State continues to win and has beaten teams with a boat load of 5 and 4 star recruits a number of times in the past few years.  For the record, Boise State doesn't get 5 star recruits.  They don't even get 4 star recruits and they are lucky to land a handful of 3 star high school players any given year!  Boise State is a program that just keeps winning in spite of the recruiting drawbacks.

So here's hoping that the so called 'experts' begin to get a clue and stop with the discounting of the BSU win over Oregon.  Let's face it, BSU beat Oregon. Sorry Duck fans.  But there is still hope for Oregon!  They could play for the national championship if things fall into place!  That one loss?  Not to worry.  It was the first game of the season and they lost to a team that just doesn't play anybody.
