Houston Astros: A Quick Scan Of What's To Come…

With the World Series underway and the hated Yankees back in the Fall Classic, fans will have to wait on word concerning MLB news and the Houston Astros.

But after naming Brad Mills the new Houston skipper, it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the coaching staff are announced. Let’s hope Mills, Ed Wade, and Drayton McLane can get a solid group of coaches together to help guide the 'Stros in 2010 and beyond.

I’m really not sure what all awaits this franchise this offseason, but I do know major changes are coming.

I’d rather not see an always-Astro player like Roy Oswalt or Lance Berkman traded away, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if it happened.

As mentioned in a prior Astros column on The Bleacher Report, I still have a lot of frustration over the trades Houston made in trading young guns like Chris Burke and Luke Scott (not to mention a handful of up-and-coming pitchers).

Did those trades pan out? No.

But the Houston Astros can still bounce back. It begins, obviously, with a masterful manager and a competent coaching staff. That news should break relatively soon.

Give the World Series time to conclude. Give Yankees fans time to cry it out regarding over-spending and under-achieving when the Phillies win back-to-backs.

And give Commissioner Bud Selig time to lift his news-ban—then we’ll see what’s going on with the 'Stros.

Mills and company have quite a busy offseason awaiting them.

It’s time to turn around the Houston Astros franchise and make them NL Central contenders…
