A Spectacle To Behold The Rolex 24 at Daytona

Well race fans I have to say there are many great races throughout the year, but one inparticular is the best hands down. At least here in the states you can not get any better than The Rolex 24 at Daytona. For those of you who have never seen this race it is the very first race of the season kicking off speedweeks at Daytona generally the last weekend of January.

Now just so you know this is an endurance race that encompasses 24 hours, thats right 24 hours, one whole event of nonstop day and night racing. I have attended this event once and watched it many times on TV since I was a child. I have made plans to go this coming year and take my first son to his first racing event.

This isnt just any race, this is a fight to the end. With generally 2 classes of cars racing at the same time on the same course. These include Daytona Prototype or DP (pictured above) and Gran Touring or GT. The worlds top drivers are at this event including drivers from NASCAR, IRL, F1, and many other factions of racing competing for the win.

Drivers such as Jimmie Johnson, Juan Pablo Montoya, Scott Pruett, Boris Said, Scott Dixon, Max Angelelli, Alex Gurney, Casey Mears, Marcos Ambrose, Helio Castroneves, Ricky Carmicheal, Carl Edwards, Max Papis, Kyle Petty, Ron Fellows, Dario Franchitti, AJ Foyt IV, Christian Fittipaldi, AJ Allmendinger, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Andy Pilgrim, Buddy Rice, Jimmy Vasser, Alan Mcnish, Scott Speed, and Patrick Dempsey all are going to be there amongst many many others. With stars like this theres no way you cant find a favorite to pull for. By the way if you dont know who Patrick Dempsey is ask your wife or girlfriend about McDreamy!

As the event starts during the day everyone is excited for great racing action, but as night falls the party begins. Food, drinking, attractions and topnotch racing is there anything better? This goes all through the night and into the morning finishing 24 hours after it started. Not only is it an awesome race but the ability to walk amongst the garage and pits and watch the crews work on their cars is an one of a kind experience you wouldnt get unless you worked for an actual racing team.

You might say with all this action its probally very expensive. This would be untrue. The Rolex 24 is probally the cheapest ticket of all the races at Daytona. You can get a four day pass which includes entrance to practice, qualifying, and the race, plus garage access and the morning autograph session with all the drivers for only $90.00!!! You can also buy a camper pass and bring an RV or other vechical to stay in during your trip. I slept in my car in the infield and had an outstanding time.(Cars do not require camping pass)

So if you love the smell of rubber and gasoline, and are drawn to the sound of a big motor screeching down the straight join me and many many others at Daytona January 28-31 2010 and be apart of one of the greatest racing spectacles here in the states. Its the ultimate test of man and machine.
