NEW YORK - OCTOBER 14: (L-R) Marian Gaborik #10 and Vinny Prospal #20 of the New York Rangers celebrate a goal against the Los Angeles Kings at Madison Square Garden on October 14, 2009 in New York, New York. The Rangers defeated the Kings 5-4. (Photo by Bruce Bennett/Getty Images)

For the first period and a half, the New York Rangers dominated the Phoenix Coyotes and gained a 4 -0 lead.

In the first period the Rangers forwards help the defense and along with Gilroy, Del Zotto and Wade Redden, they managed to shut down the Coyotes attack.

During that time, Wade Redden stood out by stealing the puck, intercepting a pass and creating a nice offensive rush. This is what I am talking about, these are the types of plays we expect from a guy who has 12 years in the league.  These are the plays that separate the players that want to play and the players who just show up to collect a pay day. Giroy and Del Zotto played very good as always, where as Girardi and Staal struggled.  Rosy did what he does best and was invisible for the most part of the game.

The Chemistry between Vinny Prospal and Marion Gaborik is amazing. These two players are just creating chances and scoring goals every time they are on the ice.  With their passing and offensive awareness of each other at all times, these two player have to be one of the most dominating duos in Hockey today.  It is just a beautiful thing watching these two players doing their thing.

The Coyotes change goalies after a period and a half and the transformation began.  Phoenix turned up the attack and the Rangers started to break down and were being out played.

With less than 5 minutes left in the 2nd period the Rangers give up a goal and with less than a minute left in the period they give up a short- handed goal.  It is amazing how this team can go from superb to disastrous in such a short period of time.

The penalty killing unit looked great as they went 6 for 6 and the power play unit was awesome again as the scored 2 out of 5 on the pp.

Enver Lisin scored his third goal of the year and over all he had a very good game.  His defense has most definitely improved as he blocked shots and picked up the Coyotes attackers with ease. He has come a long way with his defense of play and he will just improve as the year continues on.

The fourth line looked very good and I really wish Artem Anisimov played more time than he has been given.  He is a player that makes things happen and he has am extremely accurate shot as he made what would have been an impossible goal for most players in Montreal and he scored again tonight.

Brandon Dubinsky played a great game, very aggressive and had a sweet pass to Gaborik which resulted in a goal.

The Rangers had 6 penalties again and it seems they just cannot stay out of the box.  Although their pk unit was very good they cannot continue to take foolish penalties. The Coyotes where not able to take advantage of the pp but other teams will make the Rangers pay dearly for taking so many penalties.  The Rangers really need to get focused defensively as well as be aware of what they are doing to take these penalties.

Over all this was a very good game.  The forwards played great in the first period and helped take a lot of pressure off the defense by helping out down low in their own zone.  Gaborik and prospal, what can you really say about these two great players. They are just amazing and it is always a privilege to watch them play.

Redden had a very positive game defensively and we can only wish he would play that way more often.  Playing with Gilroy and or Del Zotto , Redden does not need to worry about offense.  He needs to continue to earn that pay check and get involved defensively .   The Rangers need him to be more consistent with his play and no one would be able to complain if he was.

The Rangers defeated a good, hard working team at home 5-2 and if they can play a smart game defensively, stop taking all the penalties that they are taking, they can get on a win streak.

The Rangers still need to improve their defense which has many holes in it.  In a game that should have been a shutout for the Rangers,  their defense again failed to clear the front of the net , defenders out of position that lead to 2 goals.  At this point the Rangers need to focus on defense while they search for replacements.
