Well Coach Bryant,it was one of those rare SEC match-ups;the kind you always liked to coach. On a crisp autumn day in October,2009. Mama,as you called her. The University of Alabama's Football team, though beleaguered and worn down from previous battles, some wounded and tired. They held the line, held on through rough seas, and boisterous times. To again rise above the Frey and hold on High Tide.
The wind rustles leaves across the hill, the sounds of workers milling around markers, and the occasional sounds of traffic on the Interstate, are no match for the sound of my heart beating in my ears. I stand here again,as I have many times before;and yes, with all my heart wishing that you could with mortal ears hear, and know. Yet,somehow in my pondering and the longing that you could hear. The wind seems to whisper softly, that you were there. That you by some saintly miracle could see and know. And you were proud, proud of young men you never coached, but proud to see them so valiantly go forth and cause something "good" to happen today.
Ah Coach,it has been a while since we all saw your face. And yet,it seems but yesterday, you took your place out there on the battle field the conflict -the game. And rose above all critisims and judgements to ride a high tide's wave. We stop to pay tribute to the Legend of the Tide. And pass along the news to the wind that gives it flight.
And Coach,if you saw Terrance Cody,I am certain you are proud. And another Tiffen,so much like his Dad. Yes,Coach Bryant if you saw the Alabama,Tennessee game,I know you are proud. I also know that were you the Coach going into that ending game locker room, you'd have much to say to the 2009 Alabama Crimson Tide.
The magic's back in T-Town,the fans spirits high. Long live the Crimson Tide, and the memory of her Legend, one Paul W. "Bear" Bryant.
