The New York Rangers faced off against their rivals the New Jersey Devils last night. With the Rangers coming off a loss in their previous game, one would have expected for the Rangers to come out all fired up.  But this was not the case, as the Rangers fall to the Devils 4-2.

I don’t expect the Rangers to win every game and anyone would be crazy to think other.  But last night was amateur night and that is not acceptable!

The Rangers have been playing a strong first period since the season opener.  But in this game against the Devils, it looked like a high school hockey team battling a professional team. With countless turnovers in the neutral - zone to horrible passing, the Rangers did not look like a NHL TEAM.  The first two goals scored by the Devils, the defense were beat and nowhere to be found.  This has become a repetitive problem and a change is needed.

Wade Redden and Michal Rozsival were invisible as always, and Staal and Girardi had major issues.  This line up of defenseman makes no sense.  Why is Del Zotto on with Redden instead of staal and Matt Gilroy playing with Rosy instead of Giradi?  With Zotto and or Gilroy helping on the offense and pitching in, the defender, {Staal } can play back to play against any breakaways and as for the Rosy, Redden pair, they can just focus on defense.

THE Rangers signed 6’6 247 lb Alexei Semenov. With all the issues this defense has had, why has Semenov not played a game yet?  Are we the only ones that see the truth? Rosy and Redden suck and adding Alexei will bring size, toughness and will add a threat in their zone.  He can be an enforcer in their zone and clear out the front of the net.  Never mind this guy has a slap shot that was recorded over 105 mph! So he just might add to the offense as well.

The biggest disappointment as of right now is that Chris Higgins has not shown up yet. He has zero goals and only two assists.  There is always one player that will be acquired who will have a bad start. It is just the way it is. Unfortunately it is Higgins but something needs to change to get him on a roll!

Coach Tortorella has said something was missing on the first line.  I have said time and time again that Brandon Dubinsky is not ready for that first line spot, but he has played very well.  What is missing here is a winger. Vinny Prospal has been playing awesome, and has shown he is very good at center and face-offs. Prospal and Gaborik have clicked and they both belong on that first line. Either that or they need another center and play Prospal  on the left wing, either way they are missing that one player to be on that line, other than Dubs.

The first line has played very well together and Dubinsky has tried and played very well. I don’t believe it is his ability that is missing or effort. It is his playing style that just does not match Gabby and Prospals style.  Although he hasn’t scored yet, maybe for now, Tort should try putting Higgins on that line.  Maybe that will be the spark he needs.

The Devils out played the Rangers in the first period and the third period and having two defenders that are totally useless does not help. The problem is not scoring goals and it seems coach Tortorella is closing his eyes when it comes to certain players.

Ales Kotalik scored his  4th goal of the season and his is looking good. Drury plays his heart out, but he is struggling again.

If it wasn’t for the great play by Lundqvist , the score would have been much higher for the Devils.  With one of the best goalie in the league, the Rangers are giving up goals and a lot of them.  You do not need to be a brain surgeon to figure out the problem. It’s called defense! When will Tort open his eyes and see what everyone else already knows.  Redden, Rozsival need to go!
