Triple H Defends Lack of Female Superstars at WWE Greatest Royal Rumble
As WWE makes final preparations for Friday's Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia, Triple H is speaking up about hosting the event in a country that doesn't permit female Superstars to wrestle.
In an interview with the Independent's Matty Paddock, Triple H noted the culture in Saudi Arabia is different than in the United States:
"I understand that people are questioning it, but you have to understand that every culture is different and just because you don't agree with a certain aspect of it, it doesn't mean it's not a relevant culture.
"You can't dictate to a country or a religion about how they handle things but, having said that, WWE is at the forefront of a women's evolution in the world and what you can't do is affect change anywhere by staying away from it."
Triple H did note WWE has had discussions with the Saudi Arabian government about allowing female Superstars to compete at future events, "and we believe and hope that, in the next few years they will be."
"The country is in the middle of a shift in how it is dealing with that—the position is changing, and rights are changing, as are the way women are handled and treated in society," he said. "We think that's a great thing and we're excited to be at the forefront of that change."
In March, WWE and Saudi Arabia agreed to a 10-year partnership deal when the Greatest Royal Rumble event was announced.
The show will be headlined by a steel cage match with Brock Lesnar defending the Universal Championship against Roman Reigns and a 50-man Royal Rumble match featuring superstars from Raw and SmackDown Live.
