Zack Ryder Suffers Knee Injury vs. Mike Kanellis, Vows to Return to WWE
Zack Ryder announced Tuesday that he suffered a knee injury Monday during his WWE main event match against Mike Kanellis prior to Raw.
In a tweet, Ryder said he will miss the Greatest Royal Rumble in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Friday and will instead get an MRI on his knee in Orlando, Florida:
With regard to his status, he added: "I'll keep you posted...and I'll be back."
Ryder moved from SmackDown Live to Raw last week as part of the Superstar Shake-up.
Although he is just 32 years old, he is among WWE's longest-tenured Superstars, as he has been part of the main roster since 2007.
Ryder's recent run on SmackDown began with him and Mojo Rawley reforming The Hype Bros tag team they created in NXT.
A knee injury in December 2016 knocked Ryder out of action for six months, and five months after his return, Rawley betrayed him by attacking him and turning heel.
Ryder had been used as singles enhancement talent in recent months, and that appeared likely to be his role on Raw as well.
Although he hasn't enjoyed much success recently, Ryder is a decorated Superstar with one Tag Team Championship, one United States Championship and one Intercontinental Championship reign to his credit.
If Ryder misses an extended period of time, it won't have much of an impact on Raw's main storylines, but it will be a blow to the overall depth of the red brand's roster.
