Last week we talked about the Saturday upset and about how it had become common this season. Then came yet another series of upsets.

Ohio State fell on the road for the first time in 16 games to lowly Purdue, a team that had won one game this season before Saturday. Virginia Tech lost to the Georgia Tech option, Nebraska fell victim to Taylor Potts and Texas tech, and Kansas dropped its first game of the season to a one win Colorado team.

Then there were the near misses that could have made for a real interesting Saturday. Florida needed a late field goal (and some help from the refs) to hold off Bobby Petrino's Razorbacks, Texas needed a comeback to get by rival Oklahoma, and USC stopped playing defense in the fourth, but managed to hold off a charging Notre Dame squad.

The Alabama Crimson Tide have been this season's most dominant team thus far and this week's poll reflects that. For the first time this season, the Tide are the clear cut number one.

Can Nick Saban's team avoid the upset bug that has plagued the rest of the college football world this season? Will Urban Meyer's Gators? Or Mack Brown's Longhorns?

Only time will tell. ... The race for Pasadena is heating up.

The conference breakdown for Week 8 is as follows: Big East (4), Big XII (4), SEC (4), Big Ten (3), ACC (3), Mountain West (3), Pac-10 (2), Conference-USA (1), WAC (1)
