Steve Kerr: Stephen Curry Won't Play 'Anytime Soon,' No Timetable for Return
The Golden State Warriors have yet to set a return date for star point guard Stephen Curry, head coach Steve Kerr told reporters Sunday.
Kerr said Curry's recovery from a sprained MCL is going according to plan but that Curry is "not going to play anytime soon," per the Mercury News' Mark Medina. Kerr added that Curry doesn't have any pain in his left knee but "still has a few limitations."
While it's somewhat concerning, the fact the Warriors don't have a timetable for Curry's return isn't a reason for panic in the Bay Area.
The team has been careful not to commit to any hard and fast date for when it expects the two-time MVP to get back to 100 percent. Golden State still had a handful of games left in the regular season when Kerr revealed Curry would be out for at least the first round.
The Warriors don't need to rush Curry. They're up 3-0 in their first-round series with the San Antonio Spurs, and Curry's absence shouldn't be a fatal blow for Golden State in a second-round series against the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Warriors won three of their four matchups with New Orleans during the regular season, and their 20.2 net rating against the Spurs is far and away the best of the postseason so far, according to NBA.com. The Pelicans are in second with a 10.4 net rating from their sweep of the Portland Trail Blazers.
The Warriors' priority should be ensuring Curry is fully healthy for the conference finals and NBA Finals, when his presence would be much more vital for Golden State.
