Undertaker to Face Rusev in Casket Match at WWE's Greatest Royal Rumble
WWE announced Wednesday that The Undertaker will take on Rusev in a casket match during its Greatest Royal Rumble event at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on April 27.
The Undertaker returned to the ring Sunday at WrestleMania 34 to defeat John Cena after a yearlong absence from competition.
It will be The Deadman's first casket match—which is won by placing your opponent inside a casket and closing the lid—since defeating Big Show at Survivor Series 2008, according to the Internet Wrestling Database.
The battle becomes part of a loaded card for the showcase, which will air on the WWE Network. Other matches include John Cena vs. Triple H, Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns in a steel cage for the Universal Championship and a 50-participant Royal Rumble.
It's a high-profile assignment for Rusev, who's gotten over with fans in recent months with his "Rusev Day" gimmick. He competed in a fatal four-way match for the United States Championship at WrestleMania, which Jinder Mahal won.
Whether the clash with Rusev will lead to more consistent appearances for Taker, who only appeared on WWE TV once between WrestleManias 33 and 34, is unclear.
The 53-year-old legend did look revitalized while squashing Cena in less than three minutes to help reestablish himself as a dominant figure after his loss to Reigns at last year's Showcase of the Immortals.
