Paige Named New WWE SmackDown Live GM After Daniel Bryan Resigns
WWE didn't waste any time transitioning Paige to the next step in her career after she confirmed her retirement Monday night.
SmackDown Live commissioner Shane McMahon announced Tuesday night Daniel Bryan had stepped down as general manager for the blue brand and that Paige was stepping into the role:
McMahon shared a photo backstage with the new GM after the announcement:
Paige has been out of action since December after aggravating a neck injury. The 25-year-old ended the speculation about her career Monday night, telling the WWE Universe she's no longer able to compete in the ring:
"Four years ago in New Orleans, @RealPaigeWWE debuted and won the #DivasChampionship.

It's somewhat ironic Paige is replacing Bryan, whose own career appeared to be over when he retired in February 2016. After a lengthy process working toward a return, he received medical clearance to continue wrestling in March and teamed with McMahon in a victory over Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 34.
If Bryan can make a comeback, then it's premature to write off Paige's hopes of competing in WWE again.
By becoming the SmackDown Live GM, Paige at least maintains a regular role in WWE programming. She has already acclimated herself to her new position, drawing a large cheer from the crowd when she made her first match: Bryan vs. AJ Styles.
