Cavaliers News: Jeff Green to Start for Cleveland for Rest of Season
After coming off the bench for all but 10 of the first 74 games this season, Jeff Green will be in the Cleveland Cavaliers' starting lineup moving forward.
Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue announced Thursday, via Cleveland.com's Joe Vardon, that Green would take the court with the starters for the remainder of the season, including the playoffs.
The decision was made as Lue prepared to make his return from a leave of absence. He had been out since March 19, with the team going 8-1 in his absence.
Green, who is on his fourth team in three seasons, has provided the Cavaliers with solid minutes. The 31-year-old has averaged 10.5 points on 46.5 percent shooting and 3.2 rebounds in 23.2 minutes per game. He has appeared in 38 postseason games (15 starts) with four different teams, averaging 11 points and 4.1 rebounds.
Inserting Green into the starting lineup means both Tristan Thompson—a key piece in Cleveland's 2016 championship run—and midseason acquisition Larry Nance Jr. could have reduced roles as the 6'9", 235-pound forward starts in the front court.
Even as Cleveland sits in third place in the Eastern Conference with a 48-30 record, it's been a season full of lineup changes for this squad. Trades, injuries and ineffectiveness have caused Lue to try to mix and match the starting five as the season went on.
Now, as the regular season nears an end, it's time to try to find stability.
