Grading Hype Level for Each Announced Match on WWE Elimination Chamber 2018 Card
As is so often the case with WWE pay-per-views, Elimination Chamber 2018 provides fans with a mixture of bouts to either avoid or look forward to.
There's little doubting that the show's two marquee matches sit high on the list of contests the company has planned for Sunday.
They have been hyped extremely well, but what about the other contests?
With the Raw tag titles on the line, as well as a significant stipulation for the women's division to throw in the mix, there are a number of big talking points going into the show.
Here's a look at all five matches on the main card, ranked from worst to best in terms of the level of hype surrounding them.
5. Matt Hardy vs. Bray Wyatt
1 of 5There is little doubt about which match fans will care least about at Elimination Chamber.
For almost two months, Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt have squared off with no real depth or intrigue to the feud, and that is set to continue on Sunday.
It's difficult to work out who needs a victory more to boost their standing on Raw. In truth, it's difficult to see how a win would give either a significant lift.
This rivalry should have been a blockbuster—WWE's two most bizarre individuals locking horns on a weekly basis. But instead, it just felt flat from the start, with a lack of interest behind it.
This should open the show, because fans won't be too bothered either way about who wins.
4. The Bar vs. Titus Worldwide
2 of 5Raw's tag division has taken an interesting turn in recent weeks.
However, the surprise elevation of Titus Worldwide into title contention doesn't give this match a high amount of hype, and it's one of the matches fans will care less about.
Apollo and Titus O'Neil could certainly win the belts on Sunday night, but even if they do, it will make little impact in the face of so much happening elsewhere on the card.
WWE had plans for Jason Jordan and Seth Rollins to be filling this slot at Elimination Chamber. The fact there was a late change because of Jordan's injury emphasizes where this bout sits on the card.
3. Asuka vs. Nia Jax
3 of 5It's a match with high stakes and two of Raw's most compelling female wrestlers, and had it not been for the Elimination Chamber match, Asuka vs. Nia Jax would have stood out even more.
As it is, it's still a fascinating bout as Asuka puts her undefeated streak on the line against Jax, who will secure a path into the Raw Women's Championship picture with a win.
That title scene would undoubtedly be better with Jax in it, but how the company handles her getting through this obstacle while keeping Asuka's streak intact is intriguing.
It is too early for Asuka to suffer her first loss in WWE. Similarly, it would feel right if Jax were in the title picture at Mania.
It's one of the bouts worth keeping a close eye on this Sunday.
2. Women's Elimination Chamber Match
4 of 5Whether Alexa Bliss emerges from the Elimination Chamber with her Raw Women's Championship or not on Sunday night, she will have played a significant role in history.
For the first time, WWE will allow its leading female competitors to step foot inside the demonic Chamber structure, and there is the potential for something special to happen.
Bliss is surely the favorite to win the match and move on to a likely bout with Asuka at WrestleMania. But standing in her way are the likes of Sasha Banks and Bayley, who also have added another level of hype to the match's build.
Keep a close eye on Mickie James too, who added an interesting dynamic to the bout by aligning with Bliss on Monday night.
All in all, there's no reason to doubt WWE's women. They haven't let the fans down before, and they will deliver inside the Chamber on Sunday.
1. Men's Elimination Chamber Match
5 of 5Even with an obvious and overwhelming favorite, WWE has crafted a seven-man field for Sunday's main event that makes it one of the more fascinating Elimination Chamber bouts in years.
Roman Reigns enters the structure as the hot tip to win and face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, but even if he does, the pre-match hype has given this contest a must-see feel.
That hype has been spearheaded by Braun Strowman, who has been on a tear for the last few weeks, culminating in him dismantling The Miz to win the gauntlet match on Monday night.
But Seth Rollins' heroic performance in that match will keep fans interested as to what could be next for The Architect.
Throw in the likes of Finn Balor and Elias, and you've got star power aplenty, as well as a high level of hype.
There's little doubt which match fans are the most invested in going into Elimination Chamber. And it's fully deserved.
