Saturday the Medaille College Mavericks soccer team posted their fifth consecutive shutout by defeating the La Roche College Red Hawks 5-0. The victory was most beneficial for the seniors as they accumulated eleven of the sixteen Medaille points on "Senior Night". Both Medaille and La Roche brought undefeated AMCC records into the game as Medaille was looking to become that last undefeated team in conference play.
Senior Midfielder Gary Boughton got things started for the Mavericks with his eighth goal of the season just five minutes into the game. Just over ten minutes later Boughton would strike again as he pin pointed a strike from the thirty five yard line to notch his ninth goal of the season and thirty fourth of his career.
With Medaille up 2-0 to start the second half, senior John Siefert headed an amazing pass to fellow senior Josh Meier as he headed the ball past the La Roche Goaltender for his sixth goal of the season. Medaille wouldn't settle for just three goals on the night as junior Corey Phillips drilled home his third goal of the year on a pass from Alex Rouse for the 4-0 lead.
Medaille would complete their scoring in the late stages of the game as senior Kendell McFayden put home his sixth goal of the season and fortieth of his career at the eighty seven minute mark for the 5-0 Maverick lead. McFayden would also finish the night with an assist on the first Medaille goal.
Medaille's Stuart Ziegler and senior John Siefert contributed to the offense as they added two assists on the night to help Medaille secure their eleventh shutout of the season and improve their record to 13-2-1 overall and 7-0-0 in conference play.
A couple of huge playoff scenario's will be on the line Friday as the Mavericks will host a crucial AMCC matchup as the Penn State-Behrend Lions (11-3-1, 6-1-0) travel to All-High Stadium for a 3:00 P.M. start time.
