Again, UCF Misses Crucial Opportunities

In my head-to-head offensive matchups article featuring Miami vs. UCF, I highlighted the prowess of both Brynn Harvey and UCF's wide receiving corps. I prophesied that if they executed properly, with the help of quarterback Brett Hodges, they would go far against the Hurricanes.

Just as Knights fans had feared, the skill of their offense did not matter Saturday night.

With the inability to score once in position, the Knights' Achilles heel for most of the season, they were powerless against a pumped Miami offense.

As Brett Hodges said after the game,"We had so many opportunities but just didn't take advantage of them."

These opportunities included a failed conversion from the two-yard line late in the third quarter when only trailing by 10, eliminating any hope of a comeback.

Soon after, the once-packed stadium begin to empty, signaling fans' frustration in the lack of excitement that the Knights bring to the field, and the same mistakes being made time and time again.

Both Miami and UCF's defenses played extremely well, and the Knights pressured quarterback Jacory Harris throughout the game.

In all, they recorded six sacks, the most in a game since last season against East Carolina.

Cory Hogue had two sacks, while Bruce Miller, Darius Nall, David Williams, and Jarvis Geathers each nailed Harris once.

With a better showing from UCF's offense, a win would have been possible. Instead, we are left questioning what the problem with the 2009-10 Knights seems to be.

Is it lack of adequate psychological training?A lack of adequate preparation in red zone scenarios?

Whatever the issue is, we will continue to examine it as UCF football continues to fall short of their potential.
