NEW YORK - OCTOBER 16: Derek Jeter #2 of the New York Yankees throws to first base against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in Game One of the ALCS during the 2009 MLB Playoffs at Yankee Stadium on October 16, 2009 in New York, New York. Playoff Baseball.  The time of year, crisp cold air, the leaves starting to change, and Derek Jeter proving why he is the ultimate Yankee Captain.  One can even put up with Joe Buck and Tim McCarver, as long as the remote is working and one can mute them from time to time.

The cool kid from Michigan keeps reminding us that you do not have to hit 5 billion home runs to be a baseball player, as he led off the bottom of the first with a base hit and set the stage for a early 2-0 Yankee lead.  This setting of the stage for the ALDS, and also for the World Series.  Jeter will get his job done.  Period.

So with Jeter getting his job done, the Yankess are left with one less issue on the way to the American League Pennant and home field advantage in the Fall Classic.

The Yankee's still have some questions, but early signs are they can bank on CC Sabathia giving them three solid starts, three solid starts if necessary.  The Pride of the Yankee's Mr. Jeter would prefer to get the thing wrapped up, and not worry about going to a game 7, and with Jeter getting his job done, CC looking sharp, no doubt the Angels may be left at the Big A in Anaheim looking for answers.

One just hopes Derek will leave all pinstripe fans with a memorable moment similar to the amazing Hall of Fame play in Oakland a few years back, but the reality is he will continue to do the small things, the small things that win playoff baseball.

Derek will be the leader, the confidence, the sacrifice bunt, the guy that does not boot the tough hop, the guy that does not run through the third base coaches stop sign, the guy that hits with two outs, the guy that hits a bomb when the club needs a bomb.  Derek defines baseball, a game of inches, a game with many parts, and a game in which the talent level this time of year is very similar, but the team that wins is the one that does the small things everyday.

Game One has just started, and we know the conclusion.  Derek will lead the way for the Yankee's to capture the Fall Classic, and my bet is Derek will be overlooked for MVP.  I know the truth, he is the glue, and the real straw that stirs the drink.
