Seahawks Trade Rumors: Seattle Reportedly Trying to Deal WR Jermaine Kearse

Tyler ConwayAug 30, 2017

The Seattle Seahawks, looking to unload some of their wide receiver depth, have reportedly made Jermaine Kearse available for trade.

Dianna Russini of ESPN reported the news.

Kearse, 27, recorded 41 receptions for 510 yards and one touchdown last season. He's been considered a player on the roster bubble for months, though he led the Seahawks with 59 yards on three receptions in Friday's preseason win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

The emergence of Kasen Williams also put some uncertainty in his future, but Kearse's performance in the penultimate preseason game seemed to make it a good bet he'd stick on the 53-man roster. Russini's report seems to indicate Seattle will likely cut Kearse if it's unable to find a feasible trade. Teams typically float around veterans on the cut line in trade talks before they move on—most recently the case with cornerback Joe Haden.

Kearse has spent all five of his NFL seasons with the Seahawks after being signed as an undrafted free agent. He is in the second year of a three-year, $13.5 million contract. Seattle would save next to nothing from a cap perspective by cutting him now, but with 12 wide receivers currently on the roster, it may not have much of a choice.
