FIFA U-20 WORLD CUP FINAL : Europe Where Are You?

Brazilian Football by SBSenior Analyst IOctober 16, 2009

The FIFA U-20 World Cup Egypt 2009 comes to a close this Friday with the African champions Ghana and the South American champions Brazil meeting in the Final at Cairo International Stadium.

With pre-tournament favourites, Spain already having gone home furious once more, Ghana and Brazil clearly emerged as favourites during the tournament.

Much reminiscent of the recently concluded FIFA Confederations Cup where the pre-tournament favourites Spain also went home early and furious.

Spain the Furious actually seems to be an apt nickname for this over hyped, overrated national squad.

The U-20 FIFA World Cup today will have the best in the world represented in the shape of Ghana's Black Satellites, previously defeated in their two Final appearances in 1993 and 2001 and Brazil the four-time winners with triumphs in 1983, 1985, 1993 and 2003.

Notable is the absence once more in 2009 of a European representative in the final.

Just like in the FIFA Confederations Cup held earlier this year Europe boasted of more representatives than any other football federation yet was unable to get a team to the final.

Perhaps this goes to show how much football has improved throughout the world and also how much European football struggles in modern times.

Indeed if it were not for all the foreigners from throughout the world playing in European leagues - those leagues would not be worth watching for such has the quality of European football declined.

Special note must be made of Brazil who have made it all the way to the final of the FIFA U-20 world Cup playing with locally based players.

The Brazilian U-20 squad is made up of 100% Brazilian League players.

Without a doubt the strongest league in the world but without the hype and advertisement of Europe so perhaps not as watched throughout the world.

However, you can be sure of who will be watching this final of the FIFA U-20 World Cup .....every coach, manager and football scout in Europe ....because the future of European Club football will be playing today in Cairo.

As soon as the banks start lending again that is....cause talent doesn't come for free.
