Manchester City

Manchester City make the short travel to the DW Stadium for this Wigan vs Man City match riding a form indicative of a top team.

Mark Hughes’ side have been riding a high straight out of the gate this season and currently sit fourth on 16 points with a game in hand on the top three.

Man City have scored 12 goals in their last four matches and have lost only once this season (to Manchester United in injury time).

The big spenders were tipped to succeed, but few believed that the success would come immediately for Manchester City.

Summer signings Gareth Barry, Joleon Lescott, Emmanuel Adebayor, Kolo Toure and Carlos Tevez (among others) have gelled quickly and all have been instrumental figures in the early success of the club.

Wigan

Wigan Athletic welcome Manchester City to the DW Stadium on Sunday following a string of mixed results.

It appears that consistency seems to be an issue with Roberto Martinez’s troop. One week they’re giant killers, the next, they’re losing to one of the weakest teams in the league. At least this has been the case for Wigan in their two most recent matches.

On Sept. 26, Wigan claimed a massive scalp in an impressive 3-1 victory over Chelsea. Wigan played quality football, they closed down with speed and were effective in front of goal. Fast forward one week and Wigan lose 2-1 to Hull in a disgraceful performance.

Similarly, in the opening match of the season, Wigan Athletic beat Aston Villa at Villa Park and followed it up with a home defeat to newly promoted Wolverhampton.

Martinez clearly has quality at his disposal, however, he’ll need to find a way to get the best from his lads on a more regular basis. He'll undoubtedly be hoping to find this quality team for Sunday's Man City vs Wigan fixture.

Prediction

Last season's league meetings between the two teams were split, with the Wigan v Man City meeting at DW Stadium ending in a 2-1 victory for the Latics, whilst the Citizens won the reverse fixture at home 1-0.

Wigan have shown their ability to play quality football this season against the best of sides, and depending on which Wigan side shows up on Sunday, this match could go anyone's way.
