LaVar Ball Ends Game After Ejection, Says Female Ref Needs to 'Stay in Her Lane'
Big Baller Brand fell to 1-2 at the Adidas Uprising Summer Championships on Friday morning in a truncated 53-43 loss to Team BBC that was called with two minutes remaining in the first half.
LaMelo Ball led his side with 15 points (3-of-11 shooting) and nine rebounds, but the game was overshadowed by an incident involving head coach LaVar Ball.
According to ESPN.com's Myron Medcalf, the Ball family patriarch threatened to pull his team off the floor after he was hit with a technical foul for arguing a call, as Overtime documented:
Ball proceeded to lobby for the referee to be removed, and she was.
Scout.com's Jason Scheer reported that Ball was subsequently asked to leave the floor, but he did not cooperate. At that point, officials decided to call the game.
"She's got a vendetta," Ball told ESPN.com's Jeff Borzello of the referee. "She needs to stay in her lane because she ain't ready for this."
Before LaVar (once again) stole the show, Friday's matchup had been billed as a compelling head-to-head between LaMelo and highly touted floor general Immanuel Quickley.
The third-ranked point guard in the class of 2018, according to Scout.com, Quickley erupted for 23 points as he repeatedly knifed his way into the paint, converted close-range opportunities and drew contact to secure trips to the free-throw line.
All told, Quickley—whose most likely landing spot is considered Kentucky—shot 6-of-10 from the field and 10-of-13 from the charity stripe.
Quickley was joined in double figures by 4-star shooting guard Montez Mathis, who piled up 19 points (7-of-9 shooting) and five boards as his stock continued to rise in advance of his senior season.
